SL are D(hon)isappointed; India win

India (Shar)made a couple of changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Rohit and Munaf made way for Virender Sehwag and Praveen Kumar. Sri Lanka made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper, chose to bat. Tendulkar, who faced nine balls, scored half-a-dozen. Sixteen ballS(ach)into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Nuwan Kulasekara, who broke the 13-run stand.

India scored 50 off 7.4 overs (48 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded a couple of extras at that point. Gautam Gambhir, whose 28-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 27. Forty-one balls after Tendulkar’s dismissal, he was caught by Kumar Sangakkara. Farveez Maharoof broke the 49-run stand.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. The third-wicket pair put on 21. Sehwag, whose 26-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 42. Seventeen balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, Muttiah, Sanath Jayasuriya and Thilan Thushara (Muralitha)ran him out.

Fifteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 91 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Yuvraj Singh was batting on 11, Suresh Raina was batting on a couple.

India scored 100 off 17.2 overs (107 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded three extras at that point. The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 71 balls. While Yuvraj’s contribution to the partnership was 34, Raina’s contribution to it was 13. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

India scored 150 off 27.1 overs (169 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. Yuvraj’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 74 balls.

Thirty-one overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 168 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Yuvraj was batting on 58, Suresh Raina was batting on 29.

Raina, whose 43-ball innings included a six, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. A hundred and thirteen balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, he was caught by Chamara Kapugedera. Tillakaratne Dilshan broke the 85-run partnership.

Yuvraj, whose 88-ball innings included seven boundaries and a six, eventually scored 66. A dozen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Kulasekara, who broke the 12-run stand.

India scored 200 off 38.1 overs (236 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded seven extras at that point. The sixth-wicket pair put on 39. Yusuf Pathan, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 21. Fifty-three balls later, Kulasekara ran him out.

Dhoni, who faced 35 balls, scored 23. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Maharoof broke the four-run stand.

India scored 250 off 48.5 overs (302 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded 10 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Kumar, whose 22-ball innings included a boundary, scored 15. Thirty-two balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, he was caught by Mahela Jayawardene, Sri Lanka’s skipper. Ajantha Mendis broke the 33-run stand.

The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Zaheer Khan, whose 23-ball innings included a six, scored 17. The next ball, he was caught by Dilshan off the bowling of Mendis. Pragyan Ojha, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten. India scored 256 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs.

Muralitharan bowled 10 wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 32. Thushara, who bowled eight wicketless overs, conceded 59. Dilshan, who bowled three overs, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket.

Kulasekara, who bowled nine overs, conceded 61. He picked up a couple of scalps, as did Mendis and Maharoof, who bowled 10 overs apiece. While the former conceded 44, the latter conceded 40.

Dilshan, whose run-a-ball innings included a maiden, scored eight. Fourteen balls into the chase, he was caught by Ishant Sharma, the player of the match. Khan broke the 15-run stand. Jayasuriya, whose 24-ball innings included a maiden, scored 17. Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Ojha. Sharma broke the 18-run stand.

Sangakkara, who faced eight balls, scored four. Seven balls later, he was caught by Tendulkar. Kumar broke the three-run stand.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. Sri Lanka scored 50 off 13.2 overs (86 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Thirty-four overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 134 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Jayawardene was batting on 50, Kandamby was batting on 48.

Kandamby’s half-century – which included three boundaries – came off 95 balls. He eventually scored 93 off 129 balls, which included nine boundaries. He was unbeaten.

Jayawardene, who faced 75 balls, eventually scored 52. A hundred and sixty-one balls after Sangakkara’s dismissal, he was caught by Pathan. Ojha broke the 100-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 150 off 37.2 overs (231 balls). India had conceded seven extras at that point. The third Powerplay of third innings was between the 42nd and the 46th over.

The fourth-wicket pair had put on 50 off 47 balls. While Kandamby’s contribution to the partnership was 16, Kapugedera’s contribution to it was 31. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Kapugedera, whose 29-ball innings included three boundaries, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Forty-eight balls after Jayawardene’s D(hon)ismissal, he was stumped. Sharma broke the 51-run partnership.

Sri Lanka scored 200 off 43.2 overs (269 balls). India had conceded 11 extras at that point. Although Maharoof’s six-ball innings included a boundary, he had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 11 balls later, Sharma broke the 19-run stand.

Thushara, who faced eight balls, scored seven. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Pathan. Sharma broke the 22-run stand. The eighth-wicket pair put on eight. Muralitharan, who faced balls, scored three. Eight balls later, Pathan and Khan ran him out.

The (Dho)ninth-wicket pair put on a run. Kulasekara, who faced four balls, scored a run. An over later, the man from Ranchi ran him out. The last-wicket pair put on four. Mendis didn’t face a ball. Two balls later, Pathan and Dhoni ran him out.

India eventually conceded 18 extras. Sri Lanka, who were dismissed for 241 off 49.2 overs, lost by 15 runs. Raina bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 19. Pathan and Sehwag bowled five wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 21, the latter conceded 19.

Ojha bowled seven overs, conceding 39. He picked up a wicket. Kumar bowled 8.2 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 22, picking up a wicket. Khan bowled 10 overs, conceding 56. He picked up a wicket. Sharma bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 57, picking up four scalps.

India led the five-match series 2-0.
