Dhoni-led India knock NZ out

India (Shar)made three changes to their playing eleven – Gautam Gambhir, Rohit and Abhishek Nayar made way for Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Suresh Raina. New Zealand also made three changes to their playing eleven – Peter McGlashan, Scott Styris and Iain O’Brien made way for Neil Broom, Ian Butler and Shane Bond.

On winning the toss, Daniel Vettori, New Zealand’s skipper, chose to bat. Jesse Ryder, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Ashish Nehra, the player of the match, who broke the one-run stand.

Brendon McCullum, who faced nine balls, scored just three. Eleven balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Nehra, who broke the three-run stand. Ross Taylor, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Twenty-one balls later, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper. R P Singh broke the 15-run stand.

The second Powerplay of New Zealand’s innings was between the 10th and the 15th over. They scored 50 off 14.1 overs (85 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point. Guptill, whose 42-ball (Mart)innings included three boundaries, scored 22. Fifty-four balls after Taylor’s dismissal, he was caught by Dravid. Yuvraj Singh broke the 32-run stand.

Fifteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. New Zealand had scored 51 for the loss of four wickets at that point. Grant Elliott was batting on 14. He faced 39 balls, eventually scoring 22. Thirty-three balls after Guptill’s dismissal, he was caught by Dhoni. Yuvraj broke the 15-run stand.

New Zealand scored 100 off 28 overs (168 balls). India had conceded three extras at that point. Jacob Oram, whose 45-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 24. Forty-six balls later, he was caught by Ishant Sharma, who broke the 35-run stand.

Thirty-two overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. New Zealand had scored 116 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets at that point. While Neil Broom was batting on 21, Vettori was batting on 10.

Broom, who faced 28 balls, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Twenty-four balls after Oram’s dismissal, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Yuvraj broke the 15-run stand. Kyle Mills, who faced 20 balls, scored half-a-dozen. Thirty-five balls later, Sharma broke the 18-run stand.

Vettori, whose 36-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 25. Twenty-seven balls later, Sharma broke the eight-run stand.

New Zealand scored 150 off 44.2 overs (267 balls). India had conceded four extras at that point. The third Powerplay of New Zealand’s innings was between the 46th and the 50th over.

Ian Butler, who faced 31 balls, scored half-a-dozen balls. Twenty-four balls, he was caught by Harbhajan Singh. Nehra broke the 13-run stand. Bond, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, was unbea‘ten’.

India eventually conceded five extras. New Zealand were bundled out for 155 off 46.3 overs. Yusuf Pathan and Raina bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded five, the latter conceded four. Harbhajan, who bowled eight wicketless overs, conceded 39.

R P bowled eight overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 22, picking up a couple of wickets. Ishant bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 26, picking up a couple of wickets. Nehra, who bowled 8.3 overs, conceded 24. He picked up three scalps, as did Yuvraj, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 31.

Dinesh Karthik, who faced 11 balls, scored four. Fifteen balls into the chase, Mills had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he trapped him leg before wicket.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 10th and the 15th over. They scored 50 off 12.2 overs (75 balls). India had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 68 balls. While Tendulkar’s contribution to the partnership was 36, Dravid’s contribution to it was a dozen. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Seventeen overs into the chase, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 61 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Tendulkar was batting on 41, Dravid was batting on 13.

Dravid, whose 45-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 14. Ninety-four balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Oram, who broke the 60-run partnership.

Tendulkar, whose 55-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 46. Seven balls later, he was caught by Guptill. Vettori broke the four-run stand.

Yuvraj, who faced 13 balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Twenty-eight balls later, he was caught by Guptill. Vettori broke the 13-run stand.
India scored 100 off 28.3 overs (172 balls). New Zealand had conceded three extras at that point.

Thirty-four overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 130 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Dhoni was batting on 26, Raina was batting on 29.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 64 balls. While Dhoni’s contribution to the partnership was 17, Raina’s contribution to it was 33. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

India scored 150 off 40 overs (241 balls). New Zealand had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Dhoni, whose 65-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 35. He was unbeaten, as was Raina, who eventually scored 45. His 54-ball innings included three boundaries and the only two sixes of the innings.

India, who scored 156 for the loss of four wickets off 40.3 overs, won by half-a-dozen wickets with 57 balls to spare. Elliott and Guptill bowled two wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded a dozen, the latter conceded nine.

Butler bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 25. Bond bowled 10 wicketless overs, including three maidens. He conceded 30.

Mills bowled 5.3 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 25, picking up a wicket. Oram bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 19, picking up a wicket. Vettori bowled 10 overs, conceding 33. He picked up two scalps.
