Dhoni’s back; India beat Bangladesh

India made seven changes to their playing eleven – Dinesh Karthik, Naman Ojha, Yusuf Pathan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Pankaj Singh, Ashok Dinda and Pragyan Ojha made way for Gautam Gambhir (the player of the match), Virender Sehwag, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (who was leading the team), Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra.

Bangladesh made a couple of changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Raqibul Hasan and Abdur Razzak made way for Sohrawordi Shuvo and Mashrafe Mortaza.

On winning the toss, Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s skipper, chose to bat. Tamim, whose 12-(Iq)ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 22. Seventeen balls into the match, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Kumar broke the 35-run stand.

Bangladesh scored 50 off 7.5 overs (49 balls). India had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second Powerplay of Bangladesh's innings was between the 11th and the 15th over.

Mohammad Ashraful, whose 37-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 20. Sixty-three balls after Iqbal’s dismissal, he was caught by Kumar. Nehra broke the 46-run partnership. Imrul Kayes, whose 35-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 37. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Sehwag. Nehra had a reason to be in seventh heaven.

Bangladesh scored 100 off 16.1 overs (104 balls). India had conceded 11 extras at that point.

Shakib, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – seven balls later, Harbhajan Singh broke the 12-run stand.

Bangladesh scored 150 off 28.1 overs (178 balls). India had conceded 18 extras at that point. The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 72 balls. While the contributions of both Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah to the partnership was 22 apiece, extras’ contribution to the partnership was seven.

Mahmudullah, whose 41-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 23. Seventy-nine balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Ravindra Jadeja broke the 55-run partnership. Rahim, whose 55-ball innings included a boundary, scored 30. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Sehwag broke the five-run stand.

Naeem Islam, who faced a dozen balls, scored three. (Dho)Nine balls later, he was caught behind. Needless to say, Rohit Sharma was in seventh heaven. The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Shuvo, who faced four balls, scored as many. Three balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Sehwag.

Mortaza, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. He was unbeaten.

The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Shafiul Islam, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. Three balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Sehwag. The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Syed Rasel, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. The next ball, he was dismissed by Sehwag.

India eventually conceded 21 extras. Bangladesh were bundled out for 167 off 34.5 overs. Khan bowled five wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 29.

Sharma, who bowled an over, conceded five. He picked up a wicket. Kumar and Harbhajan bowled seven overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 32. Jadeja, who bowled eight overs, conceded 27. He picked up a wicket.

Nehra, who bowled four overs, conceded 28. He picked up a couple of wickets. Sehwag, who bowled 2.5 overs, conceded half-a-dozen. He picked up four scalps.

Sehwag, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Thirty-seven balls into the chase, he was caught by Rahim. Mortaza broke the run-a-ball stand.

India scored 50 off nine overs (59 balls). Bangladesh had conceded 11 extras at that point.

Four balls later, the match was interrupted by bad light. India had scored 58 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Gambhir was batting on 25, Kohli was batting on seven. At that point, there was a dinner break.

Kohli, who faced 22 balls, eventually scored 11. Fifty-one balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, he was stumped by Rahim. Shakib broke the 43-run stand. The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Sharma, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Shakib.

Gambhir's half-century – which included four boundaries – came off 67 balls.

India scored 100 off 18.5 balls (119 balls). Bangladesh eventually conceded 23 extras.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 62 balls. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 28, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 15. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was seven.

Twenty-eight overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. India had scored 142 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Gambhir was batting on 73, Dhoni was batting on 23.

India scored 150 off 29.1 overs (181 balls). Bangladesh had conceded 24 extras at that point.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 31st and the 35th over. Gambhir, whose 101-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 82. Ninety-two balls after Sharma’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Mortaza, who broke the 78-run partnership.

Dhoni, whose 45-ball innings included three boundaries and the only six of the innings, eventually scored 38. He was unbeaten, as was Raina, who faced a ball, scoring a run.

Bangladesh eventually conceded 25 extras. India, who scored 168 for the loss of four wickets off 30.4 overs, won by half-a-dozen wickets with 116 balls to spare.

Shuvo, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 21. Rasel, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 25. Shafiul, who bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs, conceded 26.

Mortaza, who bowled 5.4 overs, conceded 37. He picked up a couple of scalps, as did Shakib, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 49.
