Raina-led India beat the iSLanders

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Vinay Kumar made way for Pragyan Ojha. Sri Lanka made five Chan(aka)ges to the eleven that (Mahe)last played the Indians – Kumar Sangakkara, Jayawardene, Thilina Kandamby, Thilan Thushara and Welegedara made way for Angelo Mathews, the Chamaras (Kapugedera and Silva), Dilhara Fernando and Ajantha Mendis.

On winning the toss, Suresh Raina, India’s skipper, inserted Sri Lanka, whose openers put on eight. Upul Tharanga, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Ten balls into the match, Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik ran him out.

Thilan Samaraweera, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 19. Fifty- four balls later, he was stumped by Karthik. Ojha broke the 31-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 50 off 14.4 overs (89 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

The second Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings was between the 18th and the 22nd over.

Eighteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 70 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Tillakaratne Dilshan, their skipper, was batting on 37, Mathews was batting on 10.

Dilshan’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a six – came off 71 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 66 balls. While Dilshan’s contribution to it was 37, Mathews’ contribution to it was 13. Extras’ contribution to it was a run.

The third-wicket pair eventually put on 58. Dilshan, whose 84-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 61. Eighty-one balls after Samareweera’s dismissal, Rohit, the player of the (Shar)match, and Amit (Mish)ran him out.

Sri Lanka scored 100 off 24.3 overs (148 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

Thirty-six overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 144 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Mathews was batting on 41, Kapugedera was batting on 18.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 78 balls. While Mathews’ contribution to the partnership was 28, Kapugedera's contribution to it was 19. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Sri Lanka scored 150 off 37.5 overs (229 balls). India had conceded four extras at that point. Kapugedera, who faced 48 balls, eventually scored 20. Eighty-three balls after Dilshan’s dismissal, he was caught by Murali Vijay. Ravindra Jadeja broke the 53-run partnership.

Mathews' half-century – which included a boundary and a six – came off 78 balls.

Silva, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Jadeja.

The third Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings was between the 43rd and the 47th over. They scored 200 off 44.5 overs (271 balls). India had conceded four extras at that point. Thisara Perera, whose 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 32. Thirty-seven balls after Silva's dismissal, he was caught by Raina. Ojha broke the 48-run stand.

Mathews, whose 95-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 75. Seventeen balls later, Yadav broke the 22-run stand. The eighth-wicket pair put on 13. Suraj Randiv, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls later, Ashok Dinda ran him out.

Nuwan Kulasekara, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 19. The next ball, Dinda broke the one-run stand. Dilhara Fernando, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten. Mendis, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. A couple of balls later, Dinda broke the two-run stand.

The number of extras India eventually conceded gave them no reason to be in seventh heaven. Sri Lanka scored 242 off 49.5 overs. Mishra bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceding 40. Yadav bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 61, picking up a wicket.

Dinda, who bowled 9.5 overs conceded 44. He picked up a couple of wickets. Jadeja and Ojha bowled 10 overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 49, the latter conceded 44.

Vijay, whose 20-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Forty balls into the chase, he was trapped leg before wicket by Kulasekara, who broke the 28-run stand. Karthik, whose 26-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 18. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Jeevan Mendis. Ajantha broke the 19-run stand.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. They scored 50 off 11.4 overs (72 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded three extras at that point.

India scored 200 off 37 overs (224 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded three extras at that point. Kohli, whose 92-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually conceded 82. A hundred and sixty-eight balls after Karthik’s dismissal, he was caught by Fernando. Randiv broke the 154-run partnership.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 41st and the 45th over. Sharma’s run-a-ball ton included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes. He eventually scored 101. He was unbeaten, as was Raina, who faced 24 off 23 balls, which included three boundaries.

Sri Lanka eventually conceded four extras. India, who scored 243 for the loss of three wickets off 43.3 overs, won by seven wickets with 39 balls to spare. Perera bowled seven overs, conceding 35. He was wicketless, as was Fernando, who bowled 8.3 overs, conceding 58.

Randiv and Kulasekara bowled nine overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 51, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 34. Mendis bowled 10 overs, conceding 64. He picked up a scalp.
