India leave West Indies D(hon)isappointed

India made four changes to theiR Playing eleven – Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar way for Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Singh and Ashish Nehra.

The West Indies made eight changes to their eleven that L(ar)ast played the Indians – Devon Smith, Marlon Samuels, Brian, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Rayad Emrit, Ian Bradshaw and Daren Powell made way for Runako Morton, Ramnaresh Sarwan, the half-Br(av)others Dwayne and Darren (who was making his One-day International debut), Jerome Taylor, David Bernard, Sulieman Benn and Lionel Baker (who, was the first player from Montserrat, and incidentally, never represented the West Indies again).

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper, chose to bat. Gautam Gambhir, whose 14-ball innings included a six, scored 13. Twenty-seven balls into the match, he was caught by Dwayne. Taylor broke the 25-run stand.

Rohit, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the (Shar)mark. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Dwayne. Needless to say, Baker was in seventh heaven.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. India scored 50 off 10.4 overs (68 balls). The West Indies had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Fifteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 75 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Karthik was batting on 38, Yuvraj Singh, the player of the match, was batting on 11.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 64 balls. While Karthik’s contribution to the partnership was 29, Yuvraj’s contribution to it was 14. The number of extras the West Indies had conceded at that point had given them no reason to be in seventh heaven.

India scored 100 off 19.2 overs (124 balls). The West Indies had conceded 11 extras at that point. Karthik’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 54 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 103 balls. While Karthik’s contribution to the partnership was 44, Yuvraj’s contribution to it was 49. The West Indies had conceded eight extras at that point. Yuvraj’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and three sixes – came off 55 balls.

India scored 150 off 26 overs (164 balls). The West Indies had conceded 11 extras at that point.

Karthik, whose 77-ball (Ramd)innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six, eventually scored 67. A hundred and twenty-eight balls after Rohit’s dismissal, he was caught by Denesh. David Bernard broke the 135-run partnership.

Thirty-two overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 182 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Yuvraj was batting on 79, Dhoni was in seventh heaven.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 34th and the 38th over. India scored 200 off 33.4 overs (212 balls). The West Indies had conceded 14 extras at that point.

Yuvraj’s ton – which included eight boundaries and four sixes – came off 88 balls. The fourth-wicket put on 50 off 39 balls. While Yuvraj’s contribution to the partnership was 39, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 11. The West Indies had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

India scored 250 off 37.1 overs (233 balls). The West Indies had conceded 15 extras at that point. Yuvraj, whose 102-ball (Ramd)innings included 10 boundaries and seven sixes, eventually scored 131. Fifty-seven balls after Karthik’s dismissal, he was caught behind. Dwayne broke the 86-run partnership.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Jadeja, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Ramdin off the bowling of Dwayne.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 45. Dhoni, whose 46-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually scored 41. Forty-eight balls after Jadeja’s dismissal, Ramdin ran him out.

India scored 300 off 46.4 overs (292 balls). The West Indies had conceded 21 extras at that point. Yusuf Pathan, whose 38-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 40. He was unbeaten, as was Harbhajan Singh, who scored 21. His 13-ball innings included a couple of sixes.

The West Indies eventually conceded 22 extras. India scored 339 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 50 overs. Chris Gayle, their skipper, bowled three overs, conceding 28. He was wicketless, as was Benn, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 50.

Bernard, who bowled eight overs, conceded 50. He picked up a wicket. Baker, who bowled nine overs, conceded 62. He picked up a wicket. Taylor bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 74, picking up a wicket. Bravo, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 66. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The West Indies’ openers put on 50 off 7.4 overs (48 balls). The number of extras India had conceded at that point gave them to be in seventh heaven. While Gayle’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Morton’s contribution to it was 13.

Gayle, whose 33-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually conceded 37. Fifty-seven balls into the chase, he was caught by Harbhajan. Nehra broke the 65-run partnership.

The second Powerplay of the West Indies’ innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. Seventy-three balls into the chase, the first drinks break was taken. The hosts had scored 80 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Morton was batting on 34, Ramnaresh Sarwan was batting on a couple.

The West Indies put on 100 off 15.4 overs (97 balls). India had conceded eight extras at that point. Morton, whose 51-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 42. Thirty-eight balls after Gayle’s dismissal, he was caught by Dhoni. Yusuf Pathan broke the 35-run stand.

The West Indies put on 150 off 24.5 overs (154 balls). India had conceded 10 extras at that point. The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 56 balls. While Sarwan’s contribution to the partnership was 31, Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s contribution to it was 17. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

The third-wicket pair put on 51. Sarwan, whose 42-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, eventually conceded 45. Fifty-one balls after Morton’s dismissal, R P and Dhoni ran him out.

Dwayne, who faced 21 balls, scored eight. Forty-one balls later, he was caught by Rohit. Ishant Sharma broke the 37-run stand.

Thirty-three overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. The West Indies had scored 198 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Chanderpaul was batting on 43, Darren was batting on nine.

The West Indies put on 200 off 33.1 overs (206 balls). India had conceded 14 extras at that point. The third Powerplay of the West Indies’ innings was between the 36th and the 40th over.

Chanderpaul’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 51 balls. He eventually scored 63 off 59 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries and as many sixes. Twenty-three balls after Dwayne’s dismissal, he was caught by Jadeja. Pathan broke the 36-run stand.

Darren, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 19. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by R P. Harbhajan broke the run-a-ball stand.

The West Indies put on 250 off 39.2 overs (243 balls). India had conceded 15 extras at that point. Taylor, whose 15-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 21. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Pathan, who broke the nine-run stand.

Bernard, whose 20-ball innings included a boundary, scored 19. Thirty-two balls later, he was caught by Rohit. Nehra broke the 44-run stand.

The West Indies put on 300 off 45.4 overs (284 balls). India had conceded 24 extras at that point. Although his six-ball innings included a boundary, Benn had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 17 balls later, R P broke the 24-run stand.

Ramdin, whose 26-ball innings included a boundary, scored 29. Three balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan. Nehra broke the one-run stand. Baker, who faced a couple of balls, failed to get off the mark.

India eventually conceded 29 extras. The West Indies, who were dismissed for 319 off 48.1 overs, lost by 20 runs.

Yuvraj, who bowled four overs, conceded 34. He was wicketless, as was Jadeja, who bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 34.

Ishant, who bowled five overs, conceded 38. He picked up a wicket. R P, who bowled seven overs, conceded 44. He picked up a wicket. Harbhajan, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 56. He picked up a wicket.

Nehra bowled 7.1 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 49, picking up three wickets. Pathan, who bowled eight overs, conceded 56. He picked up three scalps.

India led the four-match series 1-0.
