India made four
changes to theiR Playing eleven – Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Zaheer Khan
and Praveen Kumar way for Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Singh and Ashish
Nehra.
The West Indies
made eight changes to their eleven that L(ar)ast played the Indians – Devon
Smith, Marlon Samuels, Brian, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Rayad Emrit, Ian
Bradshaw and Daren Powell made way for Runako Morton, Ramnaresh Sarwan, the
half-Br(av)others Dwayne and Darren (who was making his One-day International
debut), Jerome Taylor, David Bernard, Sulieman Benn and Lionel Baker (who, was
the first player from Montserrat, and incidentally, never represented the West
Indies again).
On winning the
toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper, chose to bat. Gautam Gambhir,
whose 14-ball innings included a six, scored 13. Twenty-seven balls into the
match, he was caught by Dwayne. Taylor broke the 25-run stand.
Rohit, who faced a
couple of balls, didn’t get off the (Shar)mark. Seventeen balls later, he was
caught by Dwayne. Needless to say, Baker was in seventh heaven.

pair put on 50 off 64 balls. While Karthik’s contribution to the partnership
was 29, Yuvraj’s contribution to it was 14. The number of extras the West
Indies had conceded at that point had given them no reason to be in seventh
heaven.

point. Karthik’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came

in seventh heaven.

over. India scored 200 off 33.4 overs (212 balls). The West Indies had conceded

account. The next ball, he was caught by Ramdin off the bowling of Dwayne.
