Dhoni-led India beat Sri Lanka

India made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Ashok Dinda and Pragyan Ojha made way for Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra. Sri Lanka made three Chan(aka)ges to the eleven that last played the Indians – Suraj Randiv, Rangana Herath and Welegedara made way for Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga and Muttiah Muralitharan.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper, chose to bat. Their openers put on 38. Gautam Gambhir, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 15. Thirty-seven balls into the match, Upul Tharanga and Kulasekara ran him out.

India scored 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded an extra at that point.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over.

Fifteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had conceded 82 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Dinesh Karthik, the player of the match, was batting on 46, Virat Kohli was batting on 20.

Karthik’s half-century – which included nine boundaries – came off 51 balls.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 59 balls. While Karthik's contribution to the partnership, Kohli’s contribution to it was 21. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

India scored 100 off 18.1 overs (110 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded four extras at that point.

Kohli, whose 34-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 28. Seventy-three balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was caught by Kumar Sangakkara, Sri Lanka’s skipper.
Malinga broke the 62-run partnership.

Karthik, whose 84-ball innings included nine boundaries, eventually scored 66. Fifty-one balls (Mahe)later, he was caught by Jayawardene. Thilan Kandamby broke the 46-run partnership.

India scored 150 off 29.4 overs (182 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded eight extras at that point.

Dhoni, whose 50-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and the only six of the innings, scored 38. Twenty-five balls after Karthik’s dismissal, he was caught by Kulasekara. Kandamby broke the 21-run stand.

A hundred and ninety-four balls into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 167 for the loss of four wickets at that point. Rohit Sharma was batting on 11.

India scored 200 off 38.5 overs (239 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded 10 extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off as many balls. While Sharma’s contribution to the partnership was 19, Suresh Raina's contribution to it was 29. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Raina, whose 31-ball innings included three boundaries, didn’t adds to the aforementioned score. Fifty-two balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Malinga, who broke the 50-run partnership.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 44th and the 48th over.

Sharma, whose 52-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 41. Thirty-eight balls after Raina's dismissal, he was caught by Farveez Maharoof. Kulasekara broke the 32-run stand.

India scored 250 off 47.3 overs (294 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded 17 extras at that point.

Ravindra Jadeja, whose 27-ball innings included a boundary, scored 25. He was unbeaten, as was Harbhajan Singh, who faced seven balls, scoring as many.

Sri Lanka eventually conceded 19 extras. India scored 286 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets at that point.

Angelo Mathews bowled three wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 16. Tillakaratne Dilshan, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 30. Maharoof, who bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs, conceded 41. Muralitharan, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 34.

Kulasekara, who bowled nine overs, conceded 41. He picked up a wicket. Kandamby, who bowled seven overs, conceded 37. He picked up a couple of scalps, as did Malinga, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 57.

Dilshan, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the (Ku)mark. Five balls into the match, he was caught by Harbhajan. Praveen broke the run-a-ball stand. Tharanga, whose 30-ball innings included a boundary, scored 16. Forty-three balls later, Khan broke the 26-run stand.

The second Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over.

Sri Lanka scored 50 off 13 overs (83 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Jayawardene, whose (Dho)nineteen-ball innings including a boundary, scored 11. Thirty-three balls after Tharanga’s dismissal, he was caught behind. Nehra broke the 19-run stand.

The fourth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Mathews, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Dhoni off the bowling of Nehra.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 81 balls. While Kandamby’s contribution to the partnership was 28, Chamara Kapugedera's contribution to it was 19. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

The sixth-wicket pair eventually put on 53. Kandamby, whose 45-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 31. Eighty-two balls after Sangakkara’s dismissal, Kohli and Jadeja ran him out.

Thirty-four overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 125 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets at that point. While Kapugedera was batting on 26, Maharoof was batting on eight.

The third Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings was between the 36th and the 40th over.

Maharoof, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Thirty-seven balls after Kandamby’s dismissal, he was caught by Dhoni. Khan broke the 28-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 150 off 38.2 overs (240 balls). India had conceded 17 extras at that point.

Kulasekara, whose 16-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 20. Thirty balls after Maharoof's dismissal, he was stumped by Dhoni. Jadeja broke the 36-run stand.

Kapugedera’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a six – came off 86 balls. He eventually scored 55 off 88 balls. He was unbeaten.

Malinga, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 17 balls later, he was caught by Jadeja. Nehra broke the nine-run stand. Muralitharan, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Eight balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Jadeja broke the 10-run stand.

India eventually scored 18 extras. Sri Lanka, who were dismissed for 187 off 44.4 overs, lost by 81 runs. Kohli, who bowled three overs, conceded 16. He was wicketless, as was Harbhajan, who bowled nine overs, conceding 30.

Kumar bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 29, picking up a maiden. Jadeja, who bowled 6.4 overs, conceded 29. He picked up two wickets, as did Khan, who bowled eight overs, including two maidens. He conceded 36. Nehra, who bowled nine overs, conceded 40. He picked up four scalps.

India won the 2010 Asia Cup.

Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi was the player of the series.
