India leave NZ D(hon)isappointed again

While India made no changes to their playing eleven, New Zealand made a couple of changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Daniel Vettori and Iain O’Brien made way for Tim Southee and Jeetan.

That meant Brendon McCullum was New Zealand’s skipper, and on winning the toss, he inserted the Indians. Virender Sehwag, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored three. Sixteen balls into the match, Kyle Mills broke the 15-run stand.

India scored 50 off 8.3 overs (56 balls). New Zealand had conceded five extras at that point.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. Their second-wicket pair put on 50 off 63 balls. While the contribution of Sachin Tendulkar, the player of the match, to the partnership was 30, Gautam Gambhir’s contribution to it was 15. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

Raina, whose 18-ball innings included five sixes, eventually scored 38. He was unbeaten, as was Yusuf Pathan, who faced a couple of balls, scoring a run. India scored 392 for the loss of four wickets off 50 overs.

Jesse Ryder and Jeetan bowled five wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 56, the latter conceded 37. Jacob bowled eight wicketless overs, including (Or)amaiden. He conceded 34. Southee, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 105.

Butler, who bowled five overs, conceded 37. He picked up a wicket, as did Elliott, who bowled seven overs, conceding 60. Mills, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 58. He picked up a couple of scalps.

New Zealand’s openers put on 50 off 8.3 balls (51 balls). India hadn’t conceded any extras at that point. While Ryder’s contribution to the partnership was 36, McCullum’s contribution to it was 17.

India eventually conceded eight balls. New Zealand, who were dismissed for 334 off 45.1 overs, lost by 58 runs.

Munaf Patel, who bowled 7.2 wicketless overs, conceded 79. In the 45th over, he was removed from the attack after a couple of waist-high deliveries, and replaced by Yusuf, who bowled 0.4 overs, conceding a run. He picked up a wicket, as did Kumar, who bowled 8.1 overs, conceding 60.

Khan, who bowled nine overs, conceded 65. He picked up a couple of scalps, as did Yuvraj and Harbhajan, who bowled 10 overs apiece. While the former conceded 71, the latter conceded 56.

India led the five-match series 2-0.
