New Zealand trounce Dhoni-led India

India made four changes to their playing eleven – Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan made way for Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Abhimanyu Mithun and Pragyan Ojha.

New Zealand made half-a-dozen changes to the (Dani)eleven that last played the Indians – Brendon McCullum, Jesse Ryder, Neil Broom, Vettori, Ian Butler and Shane Bond made way for Peter Ingram, One-day International debutant Kane Williamson, Scott Styris, Gareth Hopkins, Daryl Tuffey and Andy McKay.

On winning the toss, Ross Taylor, New Zealand’s skipper and the player of the match, chose to bat.

Guptill, whose six-ball (Mart)innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Fifteen balls into the match, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India's skipper. Praveen Kumar broke the run-a-ball stand.

Ingram, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored a dozen. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Ashish Nehra broke the 12-run stand. Williamson, who faced nine balls, didn’t get off the mark. Nine balls later, Kumar broke the one-run stand.

The second Powerplay of New Zealand’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over.

New Zealand scored 50 off 13.5 overs (85 balls). India had conceded eight extras at that point.

Sixteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. New Zealand had scored 69 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Taylor was batting on 19, Styris was batting on 16.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 69 balls. While Taylor’s contribution to the partnership was 25, Styris’ contribution to it was 16. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was nine.

Styris’ half-century – which included four boundaries – came off 66 balls.

The third Powerplay of New Zealand’s innings was between the 31st and the 35th over.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 150 off 168 balls. While Taylor’s contribution to the partnership was 67, Styris’ contribution to the partnership was 71. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was 13.

Thirty-four overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. New Zealand scored 183 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Taylor was batting on 70, Styris was batting on 75.

New Zealand scored 200 off 36.1 (223 balls). India had conceded 15 extras at that point.

Styris, whose 95-ball innings included nine boundaries and a six, eventually scored 89. A hundred and ninety balls after Williamson’s dismissal, Ojha broke the 190-run partnership.

Oram, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Fourteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Nehra broke the 18-run stand. Taylor, whose 113-ball innings included eight boundaries and a six, eventually scored 95. Nine balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Nehra, who broke the six-run stand.

New Zealand scored 250 off 43.2 overs (268 balls). India had conceded 20 extras at that point.

Grant Elliott, who faced 13 balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 14 balls later, he was stumped by Dhoni. Yuvraj Singh broke the 13-run stand. Hopkins, who faced 11 balls, scored 10. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Kumar broke the 23-run stand.

Tuffey, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 19. Nine balls later, he was caught by Ojha. Nehra broke the 11-run stand. The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Kyle Mills, whose five-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored nine. The next ball, Suresh Raina ran him out.

McKay, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

India eventually conceded 22 extras. New Zealand were dismissed for 288 off 48.5 overs. Sehwag, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 17. Mithun, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 24. Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled nine wicketless overs, conceded 63.

Yuvraj, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up a wicket, as was Ojha, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 58. Kumar bowled nine overs, including three maidens. He conceded 43, picking up three scalps. Nehra bowled 9.5 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 47, picking up four scalps.

Sehwag, whose 23-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 19. Seven overs, he was caught by Hopkins. Mills broke the 39-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Karthik, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. The next ball, he was trapped leg before wicket by Tuffey.

Rohit Sharma, who faced 11 balls, scored four. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Taylor. Tuffey broke the five-run stand.

Raina, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. A dozen balls after Sharma’s dismissal, he was caught by Styris. Tuffey broke the six-run stand. The fifth-wicket pair put on three. The man from Ranchi, who faceD(ho)nine balls, scored a couple. Fifteen balls later, Tuffey ran him out.

Yuvraj, whose 25-ball innings included a boundary, scored just five. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Taylor. McKay broke the nine-run stand.

Seventeen overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. India had scored 62 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets at that point. While Jadeja was batting on four, Kumar hadn’t opened his account.

Kumar, who faced eight balls, eventually scored a run. Fourteen balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by Taylor. Oram broke the five-run stand. Mithun, who faced 16 balls, scored four. Forty-one balls later, he was caught by Taylor. Oram broke the 15-run stand.

Jadeja, whose 44-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 20. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Styris. Williamson broke the two-run stand. Nehra, who faced 11 balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Seven balls later, he was caught by Oram. Mills broke the four-run stand.

Ojha, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten. New Zealand eventually conceded nine extras. India, who were bundled out for 88 off 29.3 overs, lost by 200 runs.

Williamson bowled three overs, including a maiden. He conceded a couple, picking up a wicket. McKay, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 11. He picked up a wicket.

Oram, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 15. He picked up a couple of wickets, as was Mills, who bowled 6.3 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 26. Tuffey, who bowled eight overs, included a maiden. He conceded 34, picking up three scalps.
