Sri Lanka'S(oura)victory over India is one-sided

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Sridharan Sriram made way for Venkatesh Prasad. Sri Lanka made one change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Eric Upashantha made way for Kaushalya Weeraratne.

On winning the toss, Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka’s skipper, chose to bat. Romesh Kaluwitharana, whose 19-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 15. Forty-nine balls into the match, Zaheer Khan broke the 44-run stand.

Sri Lanka’s 50 came off 10 overs. The second-wicket pair put on 46. Marvan Atapattu, whose 24-ball (Sach)innings included a boundary, scored nine. Fifty-five balls later, Tendulkar ran him out. Jayawardene, who faced 10 balls, scored three. Eighteen balls (Mahe)later, he was caught by Yuvraj Singh. Sunil Joshi broke the eight-run stand.

Sri Lanka’s 100 came off 21.1 overs. Kumar Sangakkara, who faced 26 balls, scored eight. Forty-five balls later, Tendulkar broke the 18-run stand.

While Sri Lanka’s 150 came off 33.4 overs, their 200 came off 40 overs and their 250 came off 45.2 overs.

Jayasuriya, the player of the match and the player of the series, scored 189. His 161-ball innings included 21 boundaries and four sixes. While his 100 – which included 10 boundaries and a six – came off 118 balls, his 150 – which included 16 boundaries and three sixes – came off 143 balls. A hundred and twenty-two balls later, he was stumped by Vijay Dahiya. Ganguly broke the 166-run partnership.

Russel Arnold, whose 62-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 52. His 50 came off 61 balls. He was unbeaten, as was Chaminda Vaas, who faced four balls, scoring a run.

India conceded 22 extras. Sri Lanka conceded 299 for the loss of five wickets off 50 overs. Yuvraj, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded half-a-dozen. Robin Singh, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 13. Prasad, who bowled seven wicketless overs, conceded 73. Ajit Agarkar bowled 10 wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 67.

Ganguly, who bowled an over, conceding 15. He picked up a wicket. Joshi bowled nine overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 33, picking up a wicket. Khan bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 53, picking up a wicket. Tendulkar, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 28. He picked up a wicket.

Ganguly, who faced 13 balls, scored three. Three overs into the chase, he was caught by Jayasuriya. Vaas broke the eight-run stand. Tendulkar, who faced 11 balls, scored five. Eight balls later, he was caught by Vaas, who broke the two-run stand.

Yuvraj, who faced eight balls, scored three. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Vaas broke the five-run stand. Kambli, who faced 15 balls, scored three. Nine balls later, he was caught by Jayasuriya. Vaas broke the four-run stand. He never represented India again.

Hemang, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary, scored (Bada)nine. Twenty-one balls later, he was caught by Arnold. Nuwan Zoysa broke the 11-run stand. Dahiya, who faced 14 balls, scored four. Thirty-four balls later, Muttiah Muralitharan broke the nine-run stand.

Robin, whose 38-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. Thirteen balls later, Muralitharan broke the five-run stand. The eighth-wicket pair put on five. Joshi, who faced 11 balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Eleven balls later, Sangakkara ran him out.

India’s 50 came off 22.4 overs. Agarkar, who faced 10 balls, scored a couple. Ten balls later, Muralitharan broke the one-run stand. Khan, who faced 14 balls, scored just a run. Twenty balls later, he was caught by Kaluwitharana. Vaas broke the four-run stand. Prasad, who faced 10 balls, scored three. He was unbeaten.

Sri Lanka conceded half-a-dozen extras. India, who were bundled out for 54 in 26.3 overs, lost by 245 runs. Kaushalya Weeraratne, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 11. Zoysa bowled seven overs, conceding 21. He picked up a wicket.

Muralitharan bowled half-a-dozen overs, including three maidens. He conducted half-a-dozen, picking up three wickets. Vaas bowled 9.3 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 14, picking up five scalps.
