India’S(oura)victory over Zimbabwe is narrow

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Rahul Dravid made way for Sridharan Sriram. Zimbabwe made one change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Douglas Marillier made way for Paul Strang.

On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, India’s skipper, inserted the Zimbabweans. Alastair Campbell, the player of the match, scored 105. His 133-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six. He was unbeaten.

Grant Flower, who faced 20 balls, scored 10. Forty-four balls (Rob)into the match, he was caught by Singh. Venkatesh Prasad broke the 24-run stand. Paul, whose 22-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 17. Thirty-eight ballS(uni)later, he was caught by Zaheer Khan. Joshi broke the 37-run stand.

The third-wicket pair put on 50. Stuart Carlisle, who faced 36 balls, scored 20. Sixty-eight balls later, Yuvraj Singh ran him out. Andy Flower, who faced eight balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 17 balls later, he was caught by Vinod Kambli. Khan broke the 13-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50. Guy Whittall, whose 48-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 26. Eighty balls later, Prasad ran him out. Dirk, whose eleV(iljo)en-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Fourteen balls later, Prasad broke the 13-run stand.

Heath Streak, Zimbabwe’s skipper, scored a dozen. His 15-ball innings included a boundary. Twenty-six balls later, Khan broke the 20-run stand. Travis Friend, who faced five balls, scored four. Eight balls later, Khan broke the run-a-ball stand.

Bryan Strang, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, Khan broke the three-run stand. Pommie Mbangwa, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

India conceded eight extras. Zimbabwe scored 218 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs. Sriram, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded nine. Sachin Tendulkar, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 16. Robin bowled eight wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 38.

Ajit Agarkar, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 37. Joshi, who bowled seven overs, conceded 35. He picked up a wicket. Prasad, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 38. He picked up a couple of wickets. Khan, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 42. He picked up four scalps.

Tendulkar, who faced 10 balls, scored four. Twenty-six balls into the chase, he was caught by Paul. Friend broke the 18-run stand. The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Sriram, who faced four balls, didn’t open his account. Four balls later, he was caught by Mbangwa off the bowling of Friend.

Sourav Ganguly, whose 98-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 66. A hundred and thirty-six balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Marillier. Friend broke the 106-run partnership.

Yuvraj, who faced 11 balls, scored four. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Paul. Mbangwa broke the nine-run stand. The fifth-wicket pair put on 20. Robin, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 30 balls later, the Flower brothers ran him out.

Kambli, whose 76-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 60. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Streak. Grant broke the five-run stand. Vijay Dahiya, whose 34-ball innings included a boundary, scored 20. Fifty-one balls later, he was caught by Andy. Streak broke the 42-run stand.

Joshi, whose 30-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 25. He was unbeaten, as was Agarkar, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored 16. Zimbabwe conceded 17 extras. India, who scored 219 for the loss of seven wickets off 48.3 overs, won by three wickets with nine balls to spare.

Paul, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 20. Viljoen, who bowled 7.3 wicketless overs, conceded 42. Bryan, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 36. Grant bowled three overs, including a maiden. He conceded eight, picking up a wicket.

Mbangwa bowled seven overs, conceding 29. He picked up a wicket, as was Streak, who bowled eight overs, conceding 38. Friend, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 39. He picked up three scalps.
