Dada-led India don’t (Ki)win again

It was a 48-overs-a-side match. India made a couple of cH(em)anges to their playing eleven – Amay Khurasiya and Debasis Mohanty made way for Badani and Ashish Nehra. New Zealand made just one change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Stephen Fleming made way for Jacob Oram.

On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, India’s skipper, inserted the Kiwis. Nathan Astle, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Twenty balls into the match, he was caught by Sameer Dighe. Nehra broke the 21-run stand.

New Zealand’s 50 came off 8.5 overs in 40 minutes. Oram, whose 37-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, scored 37. Seventy-six balls later, he was caught by Rahul Dravid. Harbhajan Singh broke the 64-run partnership.

Mathew Sinclair, whose 72-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 36. Twenty-nine balls later, he was caught by Dravid. Ganguly broke the 14-run stand.

New Zealand’s 100 came off 21.1 overs in 96 minutes. Craig McMillan, who was leading the team, scored 17. His 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries. Twenty-one balls later, he was caught by Badani. Ganguly broke the nine-run stand.

Vincent, whose 33-ball innings incL(o)uded a boundary, scored 16. Twenty-seven balls later, he was caught by V V S Laxman. Ganguly broke the 17-run stand.

Adam, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. Yuvraj Singh had a (Paro)reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the one-run stand.

Chris Harris, whose 23-ball innings included a boundary, scored 12. Thirty-four balls later, he was caught by Badani. Yuvraj broke the 17-run stand.

New Zealand’s 150 came off 37.4 overs in 164 minutes. Vettori, whose 20-ball innings included a six, scored 19. Forty-four balls later, he was trappeD(anie)leg before wicket by Virender Sehwag, who broke the 43-run stand.

Kyle Mills had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just a couple. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Khan, who broke the 12-run stand.

New Zealand’s 200 came off 46.2 overs in 198 minutes. Dion Nash, the player of the match, scored 42. His 58-ball innings included three boundaries. Eight balls later, he was caught by Ganguly. Sehwag broke the two-run stand.

Daryl Tuffey, who faced three balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten. India conceded nine extras. New Zealand were dismissed for 200 off 46.4 overs. Nehra, who faced seven overs, conceded 36. He picked up a wicket.

Khan and Harbhajan bowled eight overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 44, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 42.

Sehwag, who bowled 4.4 overs, conceded 21. He picked up two wickets, as did Yuvraj, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 24. Ganguly bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 32, picking up three scalps.

India were fined an over for a slow over rate. Ganguly, who faced eight balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. A couple of overs into the chase, he was trapped leg before wicket by Mills, who broke the five-run stand.

Laxman, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Five balls later, Tuffey broke the four-run stand.

India’s 50 came off 12.4 overs in 61 minutes. The third-wicket pair put on 50. Sehwag, whose 54-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 33. Seventy-eight balls later, Vettori ran him out.

Badani, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. A dozen balls later, he was caught by McMillan. Needless to say, Vettori was in seventh heaven.

Dravid, whose 57-ball innings included a boundary, scored 27. Fifty-seven balls later, Oram broke the 33-run stand.

India’s 100 came off 27.3 overs in 130 minutes. Yuvraj, whose 51-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 28. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Parore. Harris broke the 12-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair put on just a run. Dighe, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, Harris and Parore ran him out.

The eighth-wicket pair put on a couple. Reetinder Singh Sodhi, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Eleven balls later, Vincent and Vettori ran him out.

Harbhajan, who faced 16 balls, scored half-a-dozen. Sixteen balls later, Harris broke the eight-run stand. Khan, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. He was unbeaten.

Nehra, who faced 14 balls, scored just a couple. Twenty-one balls later, Nash broke the 11-run stand. New Zealand conceded half-a-dozen extras. India, who were bundled out for 133 off 39.4 overs, lost by 67 runs.

Astle, who faced three wicketless overs, conceded 13. Mills, Oram and Tuffey bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. They conceded 20, 18 and 15, respectively.

Nash, who bowled 7.4 overs, conceded 25. He picked up a wicket. Vettori, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 33. He picked up a wicket. Harris bowled seven overs, including three maidens. He conceded nine, picking up two scalps.
