The India-NZ ODI is abA(zharuddi)ndoned

The match was reduced to a 32-overs-a-side match. While India made no changes to their playing eleven, New Zealand had to do a Drum roll to introduce their only change – One-day International debutant Chris, for whom Geoff Allott made way.

(Di)On winning the toss, Nash, New Zealand’s skipper, inserted the Indians. Sourav Ganguly, who faced nine balls, didn’t get off the mark. Ten balls into the match, he was caught by Drum. Nash broke the one-run stand.

Tendulkar, whose 42-ball (Sach)innings (Gav)included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 45. Eighty-four balls later, he was stumped by Adam Parore. Larsen broke the 83-run partnership.

Rahul Dravid, whose 71-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, scored 68. Forty-seven balls later, he was caught by Roger Twose. Larsen broke the 54-run stand. Mohammad Azharuddin, whose 44-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 52. Forty-four balls later, he was caught by Larsen. Chris Cairns broke the 57-run partnership.

Ajay Jadeja, whose 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 26. He was unbeaten. Singh, whose five-ball (Rob)innings included a boundary, was unbea‘ten’. New Zealand conceded seven extras. India scored 208 for the loss of four wickets off 32 overs.

Chris Harris, who bowled seven overs, conceded 48. He was wicketless, as was Drum, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 46. Nash, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 26. He picked up a wicket, as did Cairns, who bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 30. Larsen, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 56. He picked up two scalps.

Matt Horne, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a boundary. Nine balls later, he was caught by Nayan Mongia. Venkatesh Prasad broke the 11-run stand. Bryan Young, whose 40-ball innings included nine boundaries, scored 52. He was unbeaten.

Craig McMillan, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Thirty balls later, he was caught by Dravid. Javagal broke the (Srina)thirty-four-run stand. Twose, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, scored 12.

India conceded seven extras. New Zealand scored 89 for the loss of two wickets off 12.1 overs. Nikhil Chopra bowled a wicketless over, conceding five. Singh, who bowled two wicketless overs, conceded 19.

Anil Kumble, who bowled 2.1 wicketless overs, conceded nine. Prasad, who bowled three overs, conceded 28. He picked up a wicket, as did Srinath, who bowled four overs, conceding 22. 

The match ended (Ki)without a result – it was abandoned due to rain. The five-match series was level 1-1.
