India Harare; Zimbabwe (Azh)are triumphant

India made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble made way for Debasis Mohanty and Rahul Sanghvi.

Zimbabwe made four changes to the eleven that (Nka)last played the Indians – Trevor Madondo, Paul Strang, John Rennie and Mluleki made way for Rennie's younger brother Gavin, Eddo Brandes, Adam Huckle and Pommie Mbangwa.

Mohammad Azharuddin, India's skipper, won his ninth successive toss, inserting the hosts. Alastair Campbell, Zimbabwe’s skipper, faced five balls, scoring four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Five balls into the match, Ajit Agarkar broke the four-run stand.

Murray, whose 41-ball (Goodw)innings (Rob)included a couple of boundaries, scored 22. Sixty-six balls later, he was caught by Nayan Mongia. Singh broke the 34-run stand.

Andy Flower, whose 74-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 55. A hundred and thirty-seven balls later, he was caught by Ajay Jadeja. Mohanty broke the 113-run partnership.

Craig Evans, whose 27-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 31. Forty-one balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Harbhajan Singh, who broke the 57-run partnership.

Craig Wishart, the player of the match, scored 102. His 124-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes. Thirty-seven balls later, he was caught by Agarkar, who broke the 31-run stand.

Gavin, whose 27-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 28. He was unbeaten, as was Heath Streak, who had a reason to be in seventh heaven – his six-ball innings included a boundary.

India conceded 10 extras. Zimbabwe scored 259 for the loss of five wickets off 50 overs. Sourav Ganguly, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded a dozen. Sachin Tendulkar, the player of the series, bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 30. The left-arm spinner, who bowled (Sangh)VI wicketless overs, conceded 47.

Singh, who bowled seven overs, conceded 48. He picked up a wicket. Mohanty and Harbhajan bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 32. Agarkar bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 45, picking up a couple of scalps.

Tendulkar, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a couple. Ten balls into the chase, he was caught by Evans. Streak broke the five-run stand. Azharuddin, who faced 15 balls, scored just a couple. Thirty-two balls later, he was caught by Campbell. Brandes broke the five-run stand.

Jadeja, whose 32-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 22. Sixty-seven balls later, he was caught by Andy Whittall. Mbangwa broke the 52-run partnership. Ganguly, whose 61-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 40. Ten balls later, he was caught by Andy Flower. Huckle broke the run-a-ball stand.

Rahul Dravid, whose 42-ball innings included a boundary, scored 28. Seventy-two balls later, he was caught by Streak. Whittall broke the 54-run partnership. Robin, whose 65-ball innings included two boundaries and three sixes, scored 56. Fifty-four balls later, he was caught by Rennie. Brandes broke the 55-run partnership.

Mongia, whose 29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 25. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Huckle. Streak broke the nine-run stand. The eighth-wicket pair put on 24. Agarkar, whose 15-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 19. Thirteen balls later, Andy Flower ran him out.

Sanghvi, whose nine-ball innings included a six, scored eight. A couple of balls later, Streak broke the five-run stand. Mohanty, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored four. He was unbeaten. The last-wicket pair put on three. Harbhajan, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Half-a-dozen balls later, Brandes ran him out.

Zimbabwe conceded 14 extras. India, who were dismissed for 222 off 47.2 overs, lost by 37 runs. Evans bowled five wicketless overs, conceding 36. Mbangwa and Huckle bowled eight overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 39, the latter conceded 34.

Whittall bowled nine overs, conceded 46. He picking up a wicket. Brandes bowled 8.2 overs, including two maidens. He conceded 25, picking up two wickets. Streak bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 33, picking up three scalps.

India won the three-match series 2-1.
