While India made
no changes to their playing eleven, the West Indies made a couple of changes to
the eleven that last played the Indians – Adrian Griffith and Hendy Bryan made
way for Jimmy Adams and Mervyn Dillon.
On WInning the toss, Brian Lara, the man leading the Caribbean islanders, chose to bat. Ridley Jacobs, whose 32-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. Fifty-eight balls into the match, Nikhil Chopra broke the 43-run partnership.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 39 balls later, he was caught by Mannava Prasad. Sourav Ganguly, India’s skipper, broke the 21-run stand.
