(A)Jay Zimbabwe! India are disappointed

India made three changes to their playing eleven – Azharuddin, Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble (Moham)made way for Rahul Dravid, V V S Laxman and Venkatesh Prasad. Zimbabwe made four changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Craig Evans, Heath Steak, Paul Strang and Eddo Brandes made way for Gavin Rennie, Adam Huckle, Pommie Mbangwa and Henry Olonga.

Ajay Jadeja, India’s stand-in skipper, won the toss, inserting Zimbabwe, whose openers put on just a couple. Craig Wishart, who faced eight balls, didn’t open his account. Twenty-two balls into the match, Prasad ran him out. Grant Flower, whose 25-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Sunil Joshi. Needless to say, Prasad was in seventh heaven.

Neil Johnson, whose 27-ball (Rob)innings included a six, scored 18. Thirty-nine balls later, Singh broke the 24-run stand. The fourth-wicket pair put on 13. Murray, whose 24-ball (Goodw)innings included a boundary, scored 13. Sixteen balls later, Singh ran him out. Andy Flower, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Nikhil Chopra. Joshi broke the 19-run stand.

Alastair Campbell, Zimbabwe’s skipper, scored 83. His 110-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple of sixes. He was unbeaten. Rennie, whose 45-ball innings included a six, scored 28. A hundred balls later, he was caught by Rahul Dravid. Joshi broke the 55-run partnership.

Andy Whittall, whose 47-ball (Sach)innings included a boundary and a six, scored 29. Eighty balls later, Tendulkar broke the 81-run partnership. Adam Huckle, who faced three balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

India conceded 15 extras. Zimbabwe scored 205 for the loss of seven wickets off 50 overs. Laxman, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded five. Ajit Agarkar and Chopra bowled 10 wicketless overs, including a maiden, apiece. While the former conceded 41, the latter conceded 24.

Singh and Tendulkar bowled five overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 33, the latter conceded 14. Prasad bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 42, picking up a wicket. Joshi, who bowled nine overs, conceded 43. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Sourav Ganguly, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Seven balls into the chase, Olonga, the player of the match, broke the 10-run stand. Dravid, who faced 13 balls, scored just three. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Johnson. Olonga broke the nine-run stand. Tendulkar, whose 12-ball innings included two boundaries, scored 11. Twelve balls later, he was caught by Grant. Olonga broke the nine-run stand.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 20. Laxman, who faced 38 balls, scored 11. Fifty-one balls later, Grant ran him out. Jadeja, whose 58-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 26. Thirty-five balls later, he was caught by Goodwin. Olonga broke the 27-run stand. Singh, whose 75-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and the only six of the innings, scored 49. He was unbeaten.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 29. Nayan Mongia, whose 23-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Fifty-two balls later, Olonga ran him out. The seventh-wicket pair put on 55. Chopra, whose 62-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 39. Ninety-one balls later, Grant ran him out.

Agarkar, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Fifteen balls later, he was stumped by Andy Flower. Whittall broke the 27-run stand. The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Joshi, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. Two dot balls later, Whittall ran him out. Prasad, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Seven balls later, he was caught by Andy Flower. Johnson broke the six-run stand.

Zimbabwe conceded 26 extras. India, who were dismissed for 192 off 47.4 overs, lost by 13 runs. Goodwin, who bowled two wicketless overs, conceded 12. Huckle and Mbangwa bowled 10 wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 39, the latter conceded 33.

Johnson bowled 8.4 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 36, picking up a wicket. Whittall bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 22, picking up a wicket. Olonga, who bowled eight overs, conceded 46. He picked up four scalps.
