to their playing eleven – V V S Laxman, Anil Kumble and Ashish Nehra made way
for Dinesh Mongia, Ajit Agarkar and Javagal Srinath.
Sri Lanka made four Cha(mara)nges to their playing eleven – Nuwan Zoysa, Silva, Thilan Samaraweera and Upul Chandana made way for Aravinda de Silva, Muttiah Muralitharan, Kumar Dharmasena and Pulasthi Gunaratne.
On winning the toss, Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka’s skipper, chose to bat. Marvan Atapattu, whose 46-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 34. Seventy-seven balls into the match, he was caught by Ajit Agarkar. Harbhajan Singh broke the 65-run partnership.
