Dada-led India, SA share trophy

India made three changes to their playing eleven – Sanjay Bangar, Sarandeep Singh and Aavishkar Salvi made way for Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and Amit Mishra. South Africa made no changes to the eleven that last played the Indians.

On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, India’s skipper, chose to bat. Virender Sehwag, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Forty-one balls into the match, he was caught by Alan Dawson, the player of the series. Shaun Pollock broke the 19-run stand.

Gautam Gambhir, whose 33-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. Twenty-seven balls later, he was caught by Neil McKenzie. Makhaya Ntini broke the 16-run stand. Ganguly, whose 36-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. He was unbeaten.

Mohammad Kaif, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Jacques Rudolph. Ntini broke the six-run stand. Yuvraj Singh, who scored a couple, was unbea‘ten’.

South Africa conceded nine extras. India scored 46 for the loss of three wickets off 17.1 overs. Andrew Hall bowled a dot ball. He was wicketless, as was Dawson, who bowled three overs, including a maiden. He conceded three.

Pollock, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 15. He picked up a wicket. Ntini bowled eight overs, including two maidens. He conceded 26, picking up two wickets. 

Owing to the downpour, India and South Africa shared the 2003 TVS Cup (Bangladesh) trophy.
