India'S(uni)losses to Australia are avenged

While India's playing eleven was unchanged, Australia made seven changes to the team that beat them in the fifth One-day International in India – Steve Smith, Graham Yallop, Greg Ritchie, Kim Hughes, Murray Bennett, John Maguire and Carl Rackemann made way for Robbie Kerr, Allan Border (who was leading the team), Dean Jones, Simon O'Donnell, the two Rods (Hogg and McCurdy) and Terry Alderman.

Sunil Gavaskar, India’s skipper, won the toss, inserting the Aussies. Kerr, who faced eight balls, scored four. Kapil Dev broke the five-run partnership. The second-wicket pair didn’t open its account. Graeme Wood, who faced a dozen balls, scored just a run. He was dismissed by Roger Binny.

Kepler Wessels, who faced 15 balls, scored six. He was caught by Madan Lal. Dev broke the third-wicket stand, which was worth a dozen. The fourth-wicket pair didn’t open its account. Border, who faced 16 balls, scored four. He was dismissed by Binny. Jones scored a dozen. His 21-ball innings included a boundary. He was caught by Sadanand Viswanath. Mohinder Amarnath broke the 20-run stand.

O'Donnell scored 17. His 51-ball innings included a boundary. He was caught by Amarnath. Ravi Shastri broke the 48-run stand. The seventh-wicket pair didn’t open his account. Lawson, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t Ge(t)off the mark. He was caught by Laxman Sivaramakrishnan off his own bowling.

The eighth-wicket stand was worth 49. Hogg scored 22. His 39-ball innings included a couple of boundaries. He was run out. Wayne Phillips, who faced 92 balls, scored 60. His innings included a couple of boundaries. He was caught by Amarnath. Sivaramakrishnan broke the 13-run partnership.

McCurdy, who faced 25 balls, scored 13. He was unbeaten. Alderman, who faced 19 balls, scored six. Binny broke the 16-run partnership. India conceded 18 extras. Australia were dismissed for 163 off 49.3 overs. Lal, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 18. Amarnath bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 16 and picked up a wicket.

Shastri bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 34, picking up a wicket. Sivaramakrishnan, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 32. He picked up a couple wickets, as did Dev, who bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 25. Binny, who bowled 7.3 overs, conceded 27. He picked up three scalps.
