India (Ki)win, (Gavask)are the finalists

India, who made no changes to their playing eleven for the semi-final against New Zealand, whom they were playing after a four-year gap. In addition to Geoff Howarth, the Kiwi skipper on both occasions, there were half-a-dozen players common to both.

Binny bowled six overs, conceding 28. He picked up a wicket, as did Dev, who bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 34. Shastri bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 31. He picked up three wickets. Lal bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He conceded 37, picking up four scalps.

Srikkanth, who faced 28 balls, scored nine. He was caught by Reid. Chatfield broke the 28-run partnership. Azharuddin scored 24. His 54-ball innings included a couple of boundaries. He was caught by Coney. Cairns broke the 45-run stand.

Shastri, the player of the match, scored 53. His 84-ball innings included a couple of boundaries. He was caught by McEwan. Hadlee broke the third-wicket stand, which was worth 29.

Dilip Vengsarkar scored 63. His 59-ball innings included four boundaries. He was unbeaten, as was Dev, who scored 54. His 37-ball innings included five boundaries. New Zealand conceded four extras. India scored 207 for the loss of three wickets off 43.3 overs, winning by seven wickets with 39 balls to spare.

Coney and Snedden bowled eight wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 44, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 37. Hadlee bowled 8.3 overs, including three maidens. He conceded 50, picking up a wicket.

Cairns, who bowled nine overs, conceded 35. He picked up a wicket, as did Chatfield, who bowled 10 overs. He conceded 38.

India advanced to the final.
