India are Devanquished; Australia win

At the end of this match, played on Australia Day and India’s Republic Day, only one of the teams would have another reason to celebrate. While the hosts played an unchanged eleven, India made a couple of changes to theirs – Ashok Malhotra and Roger Binny made way for Sunil Gavaskar and Rajinder Singh Ghai.

On winning the toss, Kapil Dev, India’s skipper, chose to field. David Boon, who faced 50 balls, scored 27. His innings included four boundaries. He was caught by Raju Kulkarni.
