India (Suni)lose a curtailE(nglan)d match

India made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Dilip Vengsarkar and Ashok Patel made way for the Sharmas, Yashpal and Chetan. England made three – Martyn Moxon, Paul Downton and Norman Cowans were replaced by Richard Ellison, Neil Foster and debutant Bruce French. On winning the toss, Sunil Gavaskar, India's skipper, inserted the visitors. Due to a thunderstorm, it was reduced to a 15-overs-a-side match.

The opening stand was worth 31. Graeme Fowler scored 17. His 15-ball innings included a boundary. He was run out. David Gower, England’s skipper, scored 19. His 13-ball innings included a boundary and a six. Thirumalai Sekhar broke the second-wicket partnership, which was worth 40.

Mike Gatting scored 31. His 29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries. He was caught by Mohammad Azharuddin. Sekhar broke the three-run stand. Allan Lamb, who faced 19 balls, scored 33. His innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes. He was unbeaten.

Agnew, Ellison and Foster bowled three wicketless overs apiece, conceding 23, 20 and 17, respectively. Cowdrey bowled just one over, conceding three. He picked up a wicket. Edmonds, who bowled three overs, conceded 20. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The visitors won the five-match series 4-1.
