The Indians triumph under Dravid’SLeadership

India (Moham)made three changes to their playing eleven – Sourav Ganguly, Kaif and Ashish Nehra made way for Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh and One-day International debutant Sreesanth. Sri Lanka made no changes to the eleven that last played the Indians.

On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, India’s skipper and the player of the match, chose to bat. Virender Sehwag, whose 25-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 20. Forty-one balls into the match, he was caught by Kumar Sangakkara. Chaminda Vaas broke the run-a-ball stand.

India scored 50 off 8.3 overs. While Tendulkar was batting on 25 at that point, Irfan Pathan was batting on six. They put on 50 for the second wicket off 52 balls, 100 off 91 balls and 150 off 134 balls. Tendulkar’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 50 balls.

While their second Powerplay was between the 11th and the 15th over, their third was between the 16th and the 20th over.

India scored 100 off 16.1 overs. While Tendulkar was batting on 55 at that point, Pathan was batting on 17. The latter’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 41 balls.

India scored 150 off 23 overs. While Tendulkar was batting on 68 at that point, Pathan was batting on 52. They scored 200 off 29.5 overs. While Tendulkar was batting on 89 at that point, Pathan was batting on 81.

Pathan, whose 70-ball innings included eight boundaries and four sixes, eventually scored 83. A hundred and forty-five balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, he was caught by caught by Mahela Jayawardene. Tillakaratne Dilshan broke the 164-run partnership.

Tendulkar, whose 96-ball innings included nine boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 93. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Farveez Maharoof broke the two-run stand.

India scored 300 off 46.3 overs. Dravid was batting on 51 at that point. His half-century – which included four boundaries – came off 47 balls. Dhoni was batting on 31. They put on 50 for the fifth wicket off 45 balls.

Dravid eventually scored 85. His 63-ball innings included eight boundaries and a six. He was unbeaten. Dhoni, whose 28-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 38. Fifty-one balls later, he was caught by Jayawardene. Dilhara Fernando broke the 69-run partnership.

The sixth-wicket pair put on three. Ajit Agarkar, who faced a ball, scored a run. Three balls later, Marvan Atapattu ran him out. Jai Prakash Yadav, who faced three balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.

Sri Lanka conceded 13 extras. India scored 350 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 50 overs. Upul Chandana, who bowled five boundaries, conceded 41. He was wicketless, as was Muttiah Muralitharan, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 49.

Vaas, who bowled nine overs, conceded 67. He picked up a wicket. Maharoof and Fernando bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 82, the latter conceded 66. Dilshan, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 40. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Atapattu, Sri Lanka's skipper, faced two balls, scoring a run. Thirteen balls into the chase, Pathan broke the 10-run stand. Sri Lanka scored 50 off 6.3 overs. While Sanath Jayasuriya was batting on 21 at that point. Sangakkara was batting on 27. They put on 50 for the second wicket off 35 balls.

Jayasuriya, whose 28-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 27. Forty-nine balls later, he was caught by Dravid. Harbhajan broke the 64-run stand. Sangakkara, whose 37-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 43. Seven balls later, he was caught by Sehwag, who broke the two-run stand.

Twelve overs into the chase, Venugopal Rao made way for Murali Kartik under the SuperSub rule. The second Powerplay was between the 13th and the 17th over of the Sri Lankan innings. Chandana had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just three. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Harbhajan broke the 12-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Russel Arnold, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. Three balls later, he was dismissed by Harbhajan.

Sri Lanka scored 100 off 16.2 overs, While Jayawardene was batting on 13 at that point, Dilshan was batting on eight. The former, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 17. Thirty balls later, Kartik broke the run-a-ball stand.

Dilshan, whose 25-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 23. Ten balls later, Kartik broke the three-run stand. Maharoof, who faced 14 balls, scored a couple. Fifteen balls later, he was stumped by Dhoni. Kartik broke the five-run stand.

A ball after Maharoof’s dismissal (i.e., 24 overs into the chase), Fernando made way for Dilhara Lokuhettige. Sri Lanka scored 150 off 29.2 overs. While Vaas was batting on 24 at that point, Lokuhettige was batting on four. They put on 50 off 53 balls for the ninth wicket. Vaas, whose 52-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 37. He was unbeaten.

Lokuhettige, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, scored 29. Sixty balls later, Sreesanth broke the 63-run stand. Although his innings included a boundary, Muralitharan had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored half-a-dozen. Five balls later, he was caught by Kartik. Sreesanth broke the nine-run stand.

India conceded 10 extras. Sri Lanka, who were dismissed for 198 off 35.4 overs, lost by 152 runs. Agarkar, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 20. Sehwag bowled three overs, including a maiden. He conceded 20, picking up a wicket. Pathan, who bowled five overs, conceded 34, He picked up a wicket.

The Kerala pacer bowled 5.4 overs, conceding (Sreesan)thirty-nine. He picked up two wickets. Kartik, who bowled nine overs, conceded 48, He picked up three scalps, as did Harbhajan, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 35.
