Dada-led India crush the Zimbabweans

India – who didn’t name a SuperSub – omitted Sehwag from their playing eleven. Zimbabwe made five changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Dion Ebrahim, Sean Ervine, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Travis Friend and Ray Price made way for Brendan Taylor, Hamilton Masakadza, Charles Coventry, Gavin Ewing and Prosper Utseya.

Venugopal Rao, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Five balls into the match, he was caught by Tatenda Taibu, Zimbabwe’s skipper. Streak broke tHe(a)three-run stand. Sourav Ganguly, India’s skipper, scored 20. Eighty-seven balls later, Anthony Ireland – who was replaced under the SuperSub rule by Vusi Sibanda at the beginning of the chase – broke the 52-run partnership.

Rahul Dravid, whose 30-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Sixty-four balls later, Utseya broke the 40-run stand. Mohammad Kaif, whose 122-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 65. Nine balls later, he was caught by Ewing, who broke the 26-run stand. Yuvraj Singh, whose 71-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 53. He was unbeaten.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, whose 46-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and four sixes, scored 56. Eighty-seven balls later, he was caught by Mahwire. That was just the Blessing that Ireland – who broke the 103-run partnership – needed on the eve of his 21st birthday.

Ajit Agarkar, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Streak. Ireland broke the one-run stand. Jai Prakash Yadav, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

Zimbabwe conceded 18 extras. India scored 226 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 50 overs. Mahwire, who bowled four overs, conceded 19. He was unbeaten, as was Andy Blignaut, who bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He conceded 46.

Ewing, who bowled eight overs, conceded 25. He picked up a wicket. Utseya and Streak bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 44, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 32. Ireland, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 54. He picked up three scalps.

Taylor, who faced 11 balls, scored three. Sixteen balls into the match, Irfan Pathan, the player of the match, had a reason to be in seventh heaven. Sibanda, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, scored seven. Twenty-eight balls later, he was caught by Agarkar, who broke the 10-run stand.

The third-wicket pair didn’t get the mark. Masakadza, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Agarkar. Stuart, whose 24-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Sixteen balls later, he was trapped (Carlis)leg before wicket by Pathan, who broke the 12-run stand.

Taibu, who faced a dozen balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Ganguly. Pathan broke the one-run stand. Streak, whose 52-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 18. He was unbeaten.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Coventry, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was dismissed by Pathan. Blignaut, who faced four balls, didn’t open his account. Nine balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Agarkar, who broke the five-run stand.

Ewing, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. Five balls later, Pathan broke the one-run stand. Mahwire, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a boundary. Seventeen balls later, Agarkar was in seventh heaven. Utseya, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Forty-seven balls later, he was caught by Dravid. Harbhajan Singh broke the 22-run stand.

India conceded nine extras. Zimbabwe, who were bundled out for 65 off 24.3 overs, lost by 161 runs. Ashish Nehra, who faced three wicketless overs, conceded 11. Harbhajan, who bowled 2.3 overs, conceded nine. He picked up a wicket. Agarkar bowled nine overs, including two maidens. He conceded 18, picking up four wickets. Pathan bowled 10 overs, including three maidens. He conceded 27, picking up five scalps.
