India’S(oura)victory over Bangladesh is comprehensive

It was India’s last One-day International for 2004. They made three changes to their playing eleven – Sridharan Sriram, Dinesh Mongia and Murali Kartik made way for Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Harbhajan Singh.

Bangladesh made a couple of changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Tapash Baisya and Nasmul Hossain made way for Mushfiqur Rahman and Hasibul Hossain.

On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, India’s skipper, chose to bat. They scored 50 off 9.1 overs, and 100 off 12.5 overs. Tendulkar, whose 42-ball (Sach)innings included nine boundaries, scored 47. Seventy-nine balls later, he was caught by Khaled Mashud. Khaled Mahmud broke the 106-run partnership.

Virender Sehwag, the player of the match, scored 70. His 52-ball innings included nine boundaries and a couple of sixes. His 50 – which included eight boundaries and a six – came off 36 balls. Thirty-six balls later, he was caught by Mohammad Ashraful. Mahmud broke the 19-run stand.

India scored 150 off 24.4 overs, and 200 off 34.4 overs. Ganguly, whose 80-ball (Raj)innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 55. Ganguly’s half-century came off 69 balls. A hundred and sixteen balls later, he was caught by Mahmud. Saleh broke the 98-ball partnership.

Rahul Dravid, whose 68-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 60. His half-century – which included three boundaries – came off 63 balls. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by Mashrafe Mortaza. Mohammad Rafique broke the 24-run stand.

India scored 250 off 42.1 overs, and 300 off 46.1 overs. Mohammad Kaif, the player of the series, scored 29. His 24-ball innigs included a couple of boundaries. He was unbeaten.

Yuvraj Singh, whose 32-ball innings included eight boundaries and three sixes, scored 69. Forty-seven balls later, he was caught by Aftab Ahmed. Mahmud broke the 93-run partnership. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, whose two-ball innings included a six, had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he was unbeaten.

Bangladesh conceded 11 extras. India scored 348 for the loss of five wickets off 50 overs. Ahmed, who bowled two wicketless overs, conceded 16. Hasibul and Rahman bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 53, the latter conceded 52. Mortaza, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 60.

Saleh, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 38. He picked up a wicket, as did Rafique, who bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 63. Mahmud, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 62. He picked up three scalps.

Nafees Iqbal, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Seven overs into the chase, he was caught by Dhoni. Ajit Agarkar broke the 31-run stand. Rafique, who faced four balls, D(rav)idn’t get off the mark. Five balls later, he was caught by the Karnataka player. Zaheer Khan broke the one-run stand.

Habibul Bashar, Bangladesh’s skipper, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just a couple. Eighteen balls later, he was caught behind. Agarkar broke the (Dho)nine-run stand.

Bangladesh scored 50 off 13.5 overs, and 100 off 21.5 overs. The fourth-wicket pair put on 61. Ashraful, whose 34-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 32. Sixty-eight balls later, Khan, Dhoni and Dravid ran him out.

Ahmed, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scoreD(ho)nine. Forty-four balls later, he was caught behind. Harbhajan Singh broke the 36-run stand.

Bangladesh scored 150 off 31.1 overs. Saleh, whose 114-ball innings included eight boundaries and a six, scored 82. Twenty-six balls later, he was stumped by Dhoni. Tendulkar broke the 25-run stand.

Mashud, who faced 16 balls, scored 10. Nine balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Tendulkar, who broke the one-run stand. Mahmud, who faced 31 balls, scored 14. Sixty-two balls later, he was caught by Joginder Sharma. Tendulkar broke the 34-run stand.

Bangladesh scored 200 off 45.5 overs. Rahman, whose 44-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 27. He was unbeaten. Mortaza, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries and as many sixes, scored 39. Twenty-four balls later, he was stumped by Dhoni. Tendulkar broke the 48-run stand. Hasibul, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

India conceded 31 extras. Bangladesh, who scored 257 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs, lost by 91 runs. Sharma, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 20. Ganguly, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 25.

Sehwag and Yuvraj bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs apiece. While the former, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 31, the latter conceded 24. Khan bowled half-a-dozen overs, including a maiden. He conceded 15, picking up a wicket.

Harbhajan, who bowled eight overs, conceded 48. He picked up a wicket. Agarkar, who bowled seven overs, conceded 32. He picked up two wickets. Tendulkar bowled nine overs, including two maidens. He conceded 54, picking up four scalps.

India won the three-match series 2-1.
