Dravid leads; India win comprehenSiveLy

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Sreesanth made way for Murali Kartik. Sri Lanka made one to the eleven that last played the Indians – Dilhara Lokuhettige made way for Nuwan Zoysa.

On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, India’s skipper, inserted the visitors. Sanath Jayasuriya, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. (Irf)An over into the match, he was caught by Virender Sehwag. Pathan, the player of the match, broke the one-run stand.

Marvan Atapattu, Sri Lanka’s skipper, faced a dozen balls, scoring four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Three overs later, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Ajit Agarkar broke the 12-run stand.

Jayawardene, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 17 balls (Mahe)later, he was caught by Venugopal Rao. Pathan broke the 20-run stand.

While Sri Lanka’s second Powerplay was between the 11th and the 15th over, the third was between the 17th and the 21st over. They scored 50 off 11.3 overs. While Kumar Sangakkara was batting on 27 at that point, Russel Arnold was batting on seven.

Sangakkara, whose 31-ball (Sach)innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 27. Thirty-three balls later, he was caught by Tendulkar. Pathan broke the 21-run stand. The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Dilshan, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The (Tillakarat)next ball, he was trapped leg before wicket by Pathan.

Arnold, whose 39-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 15. Thirty-six balls later, he was caught by Dravid. Harbhajan Singh broke the 17-run stand. The seventh-wicket pair put on nine. Chaminda Vaas, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 14 balls later, Agarkar ran him out.

Twenty-one overs into the innings, Dilhara Fernando made way for Upul Chandana under the SuperSub rule. Sri Lanka scored 100 off 29.1 overs. While Chandana was batting on 14 at that point, Farveez Maharoof was batting on 17. The latter, whose 61-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 18. Sixty-five balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj Singh. Jai Prakash Yadav broke the 24-run stand.

Chandana, whose 41-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 19. He was unbeaten. The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Zoysa, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was trapped leg before wicket by Yadav.

Muttiah Muralitharan, whose 14-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 15. Twenty-three balls later, Harbhajan broke the 22-run stand. India scored 10 extras. Sri Lanka were bundled out for 122 off 35.4 overs.

Kartik bowled four wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded five. Agarkar bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 27, picking up a wicket.

Harbhajan bowled 6.4 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 19, picking up a couple of wickets. Yadav bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 32, picking up a couple of wickets. Pathan, who bowled eight overs, conceded 37. He picked up four scalps.

India scored 50 off six overs in 30 minutes. While Sehwag was batting on 28 at that point, Tendulkar was 20 at that point. At the dinner break, India had scored 80 for the loss of a wicket off 9.4 overs. Tendulkar was batting on 36 at that point.

Sehwag, whose 29-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually scored 38. Fifty-eight balls into the match, he was caught by Maharoof, who broke the 80-run partnership.

Tendulkar’s half-century – which included 10 boundaries – came off 43 balls in 61 minutes. India scored 100 off 13.5 overs in 62 minutes. While Tendulkar was batting on 55 at that point, Yadav was batting on three.

The Master Blaster, whose 69-ball innings included 11 boundaries, eventually scored 67. He was unbeaten. Yadav, who faced 19 balls, eventually scored nine. Seventy-one balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Muralitharan, who broke the 35-run stand. Dravid, who faced five balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

Sri Lanka conceded seven extras. India, whose 123 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 20.2 overs, won by eight wickets with 29.4 overs to spare. Vaas and Dilshan bowled three wicketless overs each. While the former conceded 22, the latter conceded 10. Zoysa, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 37.

Maharoof, who bowled three overs, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket, as did Muralitharan, who bowled 7.2 overs, conceding 32.

India led the seven-match series 2-0.
