India clinch series under Dravid’SLeadership

India made one change to their playing eleven – Murali Kartik made way for Sreesanth, and included Suresh Raina in the line-up too. Sri Lanka made a couple of changes to the eleven that (Mahe)last played the Indians – Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera made way for Upul Tharanga and Nuwan Zoysa.

On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, India’s skipper, inserted the visitors. Kumar Sangakkara, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Nineteen balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Ajit Agarkar, the player of the match, who broke the 17-run stand.

Sanath Jayasuriya, whose 17-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 16. Sixteen balls later, he was trapped leg before by Agarkar, who broke the 19-run stand.

While Sri Lanka’s second Powerplay was between the 11th and the 15th over, their third was between the 16th and the 20th over. Sri Lanka scored 50 off 10.3 overs. While Tharanga was batting on 21 at that point, Tillakaratne Dilshan was batting on one.

Tharanga, whose 27-ball innings included four boundaries, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Twenty-nine balls later, he was caught by Agarkar. Sreesanth broke the 15-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 100 off 19.3 overs. While Dilshan was batting on 33 at that point, Marvan Atapattu, Sri Lanka’s skipper, was batting on 14.

Dilshan’s half-century – which (Sach)included nine boundaries – came off 57 balls. He eventually faced 68 balls, scoring 52. A hundred and thirteen balls later, he was caught by Tendulkar. Harbhajan Singh broke the 97-run partnership.

Sri Lanka scored 150 off 32.1 overs. While Atapattu was batting on 41 at that point, Russel Arnold was batting on one. The former’s half-century – which included four boundaries – came off 62 balls. They scored 200 off 40.2 overs. While Atapattu was batting on 67 at that point, Arnold was batting on 16.

Arnold, whose 50-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 32. Eighty-seven balls later, Irfan Pathan broke the 83-run partnership. Farveez Maharoof, who faced five balls, scored three. Ten balls later, Agarkar broke the six-run stand.

Atapattu, whose 100-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 87. Five balls later, he was caught by Virender Sehwag, who broke the four-run stand.

They scored 250 off 47.4 overs. While Chaminda Vaas was batting on four at that point, Muttiah Muralitharan was batting on seven. The latter, whose six-ball innings included a four, scored nine. Nine balls later, Agarkar broke the 11-run stand.

The ninth-wicket pair put on nine. Zoysa, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Ten balls later, Agarkar ran him out. The last-wicket pair D(hon)idn’t get off the mark. Vaas, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. The next ball, he was caught by Mahendra Singh off the bowling of Agarkar. Fernando, who Di(lhara)dn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

India conceded 20 extras. Sri Lanka were dismissed for 261 off 49.5 overs. Yuvraj Singh, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 14. He was wicketless, as was Jai Prakash Yadav, who bowled four overs, conceding 23.

Sehwag, who bowled seven overs, conceded 36. He picked up a wicket. Sreesanth bowled eight overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 49, picking up a wicket. Pathan, who bowled nine overs, conceded 49. He picked up a wicket. Harbhajan, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 35. He picked up a wicket. Agarkar bowled 9.5 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 44, picking up five scalps.

At the beginning of the chase, Sreesanth made way for Raina under the SuperSub rule. Tendulkar, whose 19-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 11. Thirty-eight balls into the chase, Vaas broke the 23-run stand.

Yuvraj, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Dilshan. Zoysa broke the run-a-ball stand.

India scored 50 off 10 overs. While Sehwag was batting on 20 at that point, Dravid was batting on six. While their second Powerplay was between the 11th and the 15th over, their third was between the 16th and the 20th.

They put on 50 off 46 balls. India scored 100 off 18 overs. While Sehwag was batting on 41 at that point, Dravid was batting on 33. Sehwag, whose 58-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 48. Seventy balls later, he was caught by Arnold. Muralitharan broke the 78-run partnership.

Dravid’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came off 51 balls. India scored 150 off 27.4 overs. While Dravid was batting on 51 at that point, Venugopal Rao was batting on 23.

Rao, whose 41-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 38. Sixty-seven balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Muralitharan broke the 64-run partnership. Dravid, whose 72-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually scored 63. Three balls later, he was caught by Vaas. Fernando broke the four-run stand.

Dhoni, whose 43-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 45. He was unbeaten. The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Pathan, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. Three balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara off the bowling of Muralitharan.

India scored 200 off 38.4 overs. While Dhoni was batting on 10 at that point, Raina was batting on a dozen. The seventh-wicket pair on 50 off 54 balls. India scored 250 off 45.2 overs. While Dhoni was batting on 33 at that point, Raina was batting on 39. The latter, whose 30-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, didn’t add to that score. He was unbeaten.

Sri Lanka conceded eight extras. India, who scored 262 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 45.4 overs, won by four wickets with 26 balls to spare.

Arnold, who bowled 1.4 wicketless overs, conceded 20. Jayasuriya, who bowled three overs, conceded 18. Maharoof, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 41. Dilshan, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 28.

Vaas bowled half-a-dozen overs, including a maiden. He conceded 28, picking up a wicket. Zoysa, who bowled eight overs, conceded 47. He picked up a wicket. Fernando bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 43, picking up a wicket. Muralitharan, who bowled nine overs, conceded 35. He picked up three scalps.

India led the seven-match series 4-0, winning the series.
