Dravid’s back; India beat SL

India made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Gautam Gambhir and Sreesanth made way for Rahul Dravid (who was leading the team) and Ajit Agarkar. Sri Lanka made a couple of changes to the eL(okuhettig)even that last played the Indians – Sanath Jayasuriya and Farveez Maharoof made way for Thilan Samaraweera and Dilhara.

On winning the toss, Marvan Atapattu, Sri Lanka’s skipper, chose to bat. Although his innings included a boundary, Upul Tharanga had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just half-a-dozen. Sixteen balls into the match, he was caught by Dravid. Irfan Pathan, the player of the match, broke the 11-run stand.

Samaraweera, whose 25-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Twenty balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan Singh. Agarkar broke the nine-run stand.

While Sri Lanka’s second Powerplay was between the 11th and the 15th over, the third was between the 16th and the 20th over. They scored 50 off 14.4 overs. India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair (Kumar Sangakkara and Jayawardene) put on 50 off 89 balls. While the former was batting on 25 at that point, the (Mahe)latter was batting on 18. India had conceded 11 extras at that point.

Jayawardene, whose 49-ball innings included a boundary, scored 20. Ninety-seven balls later, he was caught by Murali Kartik. R P Singh broke the 57-run partnership. Sangakkara, whose 58-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 32. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj Singh. R P broke the three-run stand.

Tillakaratne Dilshan, who faced three balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Four balls later, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the player of the series. R P broke the five-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 100 off 29.4 overs. India had conceded 16 extras at that point. Thirty-two overs into the match, the Rae Bareli left-armer was RePlaced by his Uttar Pradesh teammate Suresh Raina under the SuperSub rule.

The sixth-wicket pair (Atapattu and Russel Arnold) put on 50 off 73 balls. While the former was batting on 18 at that point, the latter was batting on 28. India had conceded four extras at that point.

Sri Lanka scored 150 off 38.3 overs. India had conceded 19 extras at that point. Atapattu and Russel Arnold put on 100 off 108 balls. While the former was batting on 31 at that point, the latter was batting on 55. India had conceded 18 extras at that point.

While Atapattu’s half-century – which included four boundaries – came off 62 balls, Arnold’s 50 – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 55 balls. Sri Lanka scored 200 off 44.2 overs. India had conceded 23 extras at that point.

Atapattu, whose 68-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 59. A hundred and twenty-seven balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan. Pathan broke the 133-run partnership.

The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Arnold, whose 69-ball innings included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 68. The next ball, he was caught by Harbhajan off the bowling of Pathan.

Lokuhettige, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls later, Agarkar broke the nine-run stand. Chaminda Vaas, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj. Kartik broke the 17-run stand.

Although he was unbeaten, Upul Chandana had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just four. India eventually conceded 29 extras. Sri Lanka scored 244 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs. Virender Sehwag, who bowled three overs, conceded 24. He was wicketless, as was Harbhajan, who bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 45.

Kartik, who bowled seven overs, conceded 53. He picked up a wicket. Agarkar bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 47, picking up a couple of wickets. Pathan bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 38, picking up three wickets. R P bowled 1o overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 33, picking up three scalps.

Thirty-seven balls into the chase, Samaraweera made way for Nuwan Zoysa under the SuperSub rule. India scored 50 off 7.3 overs. While Sehwag was batting on 35 at that point, Sachin Tendulkar was batting on 17. Sri Lanka had conceded an extra at that point.

Sehwag, whose 24-ball innings included half-a-dozen extras, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. F(ernand)orty-six balls into the chase, he was caught by Sangakkara. Dilhara broke the 53-run partnership.

India scored 100 off 12.3 overs. Sri Lanka had conceded four extras at that point. While India’s second Powerplay was between the 13th and the 18th over, the third was between the 19th and the 23rd over.

The second-wicket pair scored 50 off 42 balls. While Tendulkar was batting on 14 at that point, Pathan was batting on 35. Sri Lanka had conceded three extras at that point.

Pathan, whose 23-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Thirty-nine balls later, he was caught by Jayawardene. Zoysa broke the 56-run partnership. Tendulkar, whose 48-ball innings included eight boundaries, scored 39. Five balls later, he was caught by Zoysa, who broke the six-run stand.

India scored 150 off 21.5 overs. Sri Lanka had conceded eight extras at that point. Mohammad Kaif, whose 29-ball innings included a boundary, scored 13. Forty-four balls later, Lokuhettige broke the 42-run stand.

India scored 200 off 32 overs. Sri Lanka had conceded nine extras at that point. The fifth-wicket pair (Dhoni and Dravid) put on 50 off 73 balls. While the former was batting on 29 at that point, the latter was batting on 19. Sri Lanka had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The man from Ranchi, whose 50 – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 46 balls. He eventually scored 80. His 73-ball innings included nine boundaries and three sixes. Dravid, whose 48-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 31. He was unbeaten, as was Yuvraj, who didn’t face a ball. Sri Lanka conceded a dozen extras. India, who scored 245 for the loss of five wickets off 39.3 overs, won by five wickets with 11.3 overs to spare.

Dilshan, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 11. He was wicketless, as was Vaas, who bowled 9.3 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 51. Lokuhettige, who bowled five overs, conceded 29. He picked up a wicket.

Chandana, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 32. He picked up a wicket. Fernando bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 72, picking up a wicket. Zoysa, who bowled seven overs, conceded 47. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The Indians won the seven-match series 6-1.
