India beat Zimbabwe comfortably agA(zharudd)in

The match was reduced to 30-overs-a-side due to overnight rain. India could bowl just 28 overs. India made one change to their playing eleven – Venkatapathy Raju made way for Kapil Dev. Zimbabwe made a couple of changes to theirs – Wayne James and Ali Shah made for Gavin Briant and Kevin Arnott.

On winning the toss, Mohammad Azharuddin, India’s skipper, inserted the visitors. Andy Flower, whose 43-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 26. He was caught by Anil Kumble. Salil Ankola broke the 56-run stand.

Grant Flower, the player of the match, scored 57. His 65-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries. He was caught by Vinod Kambli. Kumble broke the 56-run stand. The third-wicket pair put on 25. Alastair Campbell, whose 34-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 29. He was run out.

The fourth-wicket pair did not open its account. Dave Houghton, Zimbabwe’s skipper, scored eight. His 12-ball innings included a boundary. He was trapped leg before wicket by Kumble. Mark Dekker, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Manoj broke the eight-run P(rabhak)artnership.

Briant, who faced five balls, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten. Brandes facEddo balls, scoring as many. Javagal broke the (Srina)three-run stand. Arnott, who never represented Zimbabwe again, faced three balls, scoring a run. He was unbeaten. India conceded 18 extras. Zimbabwe scored 149 for the loss of six wickets off 28 overs.

Dev, who bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs, conceded 21. Prabhakar and Srinath bowled five overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 31, the latter conceded 19. Ankola, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 33. He picked up a wicket. The (Kumb)leggie, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 32. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, whose 30-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 25. Gary Crocker broke the 67-run stand. Prabhakar, whose 80-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 51. He was caught by Houghton. Brandes broke the 55-run stand.

Kambli, who faced 43 balls, scored 32. Grant broke the third-wicket stand, which was worth half-a-dozen. Azharuddin, whose 10-ball innings included the only six of the match, scored 15. He was unbeaten, as was Sachin Tendulkar, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scoring eight.

Zimbabwe conceded 19 extras. India, who scored 150 for the loss of three wickets off 27.3 overs, won by seven wickets with three balls to spare. David Brain and John Traicos bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs each. While the former conceded 39, the latter conceded 32.

Grant, who bowled 3.3 overs, conceded 23. He picked up a wicket. Crocker and Brandes bowled half-a-dozen overs each, picking up a scalp apiece. While the former conceded 35, the latter conceded 14.

India led the three-match series 2-0.
