Virat-led India beat Sri Lanka

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Ravindra Jadeja made way for Dhawal Kulkarni.

Sri Lanka made a couple of changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Suraj Randiv and Dhammika Prasad made way for Chaturanga de Silva and Nuwan Kulasekara.

On winning the toss, Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 40, and lost a couple of wickets.

Kusal Perera, who faced Saha balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. An over into the match, he was caught by Wriddhiman. Umesh Yadav broke the five-run stand.

Sangakkara, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the (Ku)mark. Seven balls later, he was caught by Ravichandran Ashwin. Yadav broke the two-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 50 off 12.4 overs (76 balls). India had conceded three extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 66 balls. While Dilshan’s contribution to the partnership was 26, the contribution of Mahela Jayawardene, the player of the match, to it was 23. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Sixteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had conceded 67 for a couple of wickets at that point. While Dilshan was batting on 33, Jayawardene was batting on 27.

Sri Lanka scored 100 off 22.4 overs (136 balls). India had conceded three extras at that point.

Dilshan’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 73 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 133 balls. While Dilshan’s contribution to the partnership was 51, Jayawardene’s contribution to it was 47. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Dilshan eventually scored 53 off 80 balls. A hundred and thirty-seven balls after Sangakkara’s dismissal, he was caught by Ajinkya Rahane. Ambati Rayudu broke the 105-run partnership.

Jayawardene’s half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 62 balls.

The second Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 31st and the 35th over. They scored 16, and lost three wickets.

Mathews, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Thirty-three balls later, he was caught by Virat Kohli, India’s skipper. Axar Patel broke the 32-run stand.

Ashan Priyanjan, who faced eight balls, scored just a couple. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Yadav. Patel broke the four-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 150 off 33.2 overs (200 balls). India had conceded five extras at that point.

De Silva had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just a couple. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Shikhar Dhawan. Patel broke the six-run stand.

Two hundred and nine balls into the match, the second drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had conceded 154 for half-a-dozen wickets at that point. Jayawardene was batting on 78.

Thisara Perera, who faced four balls, scored a run. Nine balls after de Silva’s dismissal, he was caught by the substitute, Stuart Binny. Yadav broke the four-run stand.

Jayawardene’s ton – which included 10 boundaries and a six – came off 109 balls.

Sri Lanka scored 200 off 41.5 overs (253 balls). India had conceded 10 extras at that point.

The eighth-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While Jayawardene’s contribution to the partnership was 34, Seekkuge Prasanna’s contribution to it was 11. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was seven.

Jayawardene, whose 124-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, in addition to the six, eventually scored 118. Forty-nine balls after Thisara’s dismissal, he was stumped by Saha. Ashwin broke the 67-run partnership.

Prasanna, whose 32-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually scored 29. Fourteen balls later, Yadav broke the 13-run stand.

Kulasekara, who faced a dozen balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – nine balls later, he was caught by Rahane. Kulkarni broke the four-run stand.

Lahiru, who faced four balls, didn’t (Gama)get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

India eventually conceded 16 extras. Sri Lanka were dismissed for 242 off 48.2 overs. Suresh Raina bowled three overs, conceding 15. He was unbeaten, as was Ishant, who bowled four overs, including a (Shar)maiden. He conceded 14.

Rayudu bowled three overs, conceding 16. He picked up a wicket. Kulkarni bowled 9.2 overs, conceding 58. He picked up a wicket. Ashwin bowled 10 overs, conceding 43. He picked up a wicket.

Patel bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 43, picking up three wickets. Yadav bowled nine overs, conceding 53. He picked up four scalps.

The second-wicket pair eventually put on 69. Rayudu, whose 46-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 35. Seventy-five balls later, Mathews and Sangakkara ran him out.

India scored 150 off 27.5 overs (168 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded nine extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 46 balls. While Dhawan’s contribution to the partnership was 26, Kohli’s contribution to it was 27. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Thirty-three overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. India had conceded 193 for a couple of wickets at that point. While Dhawan was batting on 84, Kohli was batting on 34.

Dhawan, whose 79-ball innings included eight boundaries and a six, eventually scored 91. Fifty-seven balls after Rayudu’s dismissal, he was stumped by Sangakkara. Kulasekara broke the 70-run partnership.

Kohli’s run-a-ball half-century included four boundaries and a six. He eventually socred 53 off 61 balls. Forty-six balls later, he was caught by Gamage. Dilshan broke the 35-run stand.

Raina, whose 23-ball innings included a six, scored 18. He was unbeaten.

Saha, whose innings included a boundary, was unbea‘ten’.

Sri Lanka eventually scored 11 extras. India, who scored 245 for the loss of four wickets off 44.1 overs, won by half-a-dozen wickets with 35 balls to spare.

Priyanjan bowled 13 wicketless balls, including a maiden. He conceded eight. Mathews bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 17. De Silva bowled five wicketless overs, conceding 45. Gamage bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs, conceding 50. Prasanna bowled nine wicketless overs, conceding 43.

Dilshan bowled four overs, conceding 10. He picked up a wicket. Thisara bowled seven overs, conceding 33. He picked up a wicket. Kulasekara bowled eight overs, conceding 37. He picked up a wicket.

India led the five-match series 3-0. In fact, they won the series with two matches to spare.
