Kohli-led India trounce the iSLanders

India (Shar)made four changes to their playing eleven – Shikhar Dhawan, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ishant (Shar)made way for Rohit [the player of the (Shar)match], Robin Uthappa, Stuart Binny, and One-day International debutant Karn.

Sri Lanka made four changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Kumar Sangakkara, Ashan Priyanjan, Chaturanga de Silva, and Lahiru Gamage made way for Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Thirimanne, Ajantha Mendis and Shaminda Eranga.

On winning the toss, Virat Kohli, India’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 46, and lost a wicket.

Ajinkya Rahane, whose 24-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, scored 28. Forty-seven balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka’s skipper, who broke the 40-run stand.

India scored 50 off 10.2 overs (62 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded three extras at that point.

Ambati Rayudu, who faced 19 balls, scored just eight. Thirty-one balls after Rahane’s dismissal, Eranga broke the 19-run stand.

Sixteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 80 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Rohit was batting on 35, Kohli had scored half-a-dozen.

India scored 100 off 22.2 overs (134 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded three extras at that point.

Rohit’s half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 72 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 64 balls. While Rohit’s contribution to the partnership was 31, Kohli’s contribution to it was 20. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

India scored 150 off 28.5 overs (173 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 30th and the 34th over. They scored 57, without the loss of a wicket.

The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 99 balls. While Rohit’s contribution to the partnership was 63, Kohli’s contribution to it was 34. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Rohit’s run-a-ball ton included a dozen boundaries and a six.

Thirty-two overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 186 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Rohit was batting on 106, Kohli had scored 38.

India scored 250 off 37.5 overs (227 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave Sri Lanka no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Rohit’s 150 – which included 19 boundaries and three sixes – came off 125 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 200 off 153 balls. While Rohit’s contribution to the partnership was 132, Kohli’s contribution to it was 65. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

The third-wicket pair put on 202. Kohli, whose 64-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 66. A hundred and fifty-five balls after Rayudu’s dismissal, Seekkuge Prasanna and Chandimal ran him out.

Suresh Raina, whose five-ball innings included a boundary and the only six of the innings, scored 11. Nine balls (Mahe)later, Jayawardene broke the 15-run stand.

India scored 300 off 43.1 overs (259 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded eight extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 30 balls. While Rohit’s contribution to the partnership was 42, Uthappa’s contribution to it was seven. Extras’ contribute to the partnership was a run.

Rohit’s 200 – which included 25 boundaries and five sixes – came off 151 balls.

India scored 350 off 46.1 overs (278 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded 11 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 100 off 46 balls. While Rohit’s contribution to the partnership was 85, Uthappa’s contribution to it was a dozen. Extras’ contribute to the partnership was three.

Rohit’s 250 – which included 32 boundaries and eight sixes – came off 166 balls.

India scored 400 off 49.3 overs (298 balls).

Rohit, whose 173-ball innings included 33 boundaries and nine sixes, eventually scored 264. Fifty-eight balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by Jayawardene. Nuwan Kulasekara broke the 128-run partnership.

Uthappa, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 16. He was unbeaten.

India scored 404 for the loss of five wickets off 50 overs.

Tillakaratne Dilshan, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 11. Thisara Perera, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 43. Mendis, who bowled seven wicketless overs, conceded 70. Prasanna, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 70.

Kulasekara, who bowled nine overs, conceded 89. He picked up a wicket, as did Eranga, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 77. Mathews bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He conceded 44, picking up a couple of scalps.

Sri Lanka’s openers didn’t get off the mark. Kusal Perera, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. Three balls into the chase, he was caught by Karn off the bowling of Umesh Yadav.

Chandimal, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored nine. Thirty-three balls later, he was caught by Raina. Stuart Binny broke the 31-run stand.

Jayawardene, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Eleven balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Yadav, who broke the run-a-ball stand.

Tillakaratne Dilshan, whose 33-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, scored 34. Eight balls later, he was caught by Raina. Binny broke the six-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 50 off 10.1 overs (61 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

Mathews, whose 68-ball innings included nine boundaries and a six, eventually scored 75. A hundred and fifteen balls later, he was stumped. Axar Patel broke the 118-run (Uthap)partnership.

Thirimanne’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 60 balls.

Sri Lanka scored 200 off 33.3 overs (201 balls). India had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Thirty-five overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 211 for the loss of five wickets at that point. While Thirimanne was batting on 56, Thisara was batting on 25.

The second Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 36th and the 40th over. They scored 30, and lost four wickets.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. While Thirimanne’s contribution to the partnership was 17, Thisara’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

Thirimanne, whose 69-ball innings included seven boundaries and a six, eventually scored 59. Forty-five balls after Mathews’ dismissal, he was caught by Kohli. Dhawal Kulkarni broke the 52-run partnership.

Thisara, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, eventually scored 29. Three balls later, he was caught by Uthappa. Kulkarni broke the one-run stand.

Kulasekara, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Eight balls later, he was caught by Rayudu. Kulkarni broke the 10-run stand.

Prasanna, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 11. Three balls later, he was caught by Patel. Kulkarni broke the four-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 250 off 42 overs (252 balls). India had conceded 16 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Mendis, who faced a dozen balls, scored just four. Twenty-seven balls after Prasanna’s dismissal, he was caught by Karn. Patel broke the 18-run stand.

Eranga, whose 15-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 12. He was unbeaten.

Sri Lanka, who were dismissed for 251 off 43.1 overs, lost by 153 runs. Raina bowled an over, concedinf three. He was wicketless, as was Karn, who bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He scored 64.

Patel bowled 7.1 overs, conceding 51. He picked up two wickets, as did Binny and Yadav, who bowled eight overs apiece. While the former conceded 55, the latter conceded 38. Kulkarni bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 34, picking up four scalps.

India led the five-match series 4-0.
