Kohli-led India beat SL again

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Varun Aaron made way for Ravindra Jadeja.

Sri Lanka made just change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Upul Tharanga made way for Kusal Perera.

On winning the toss, Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 53, and lost a wicket.

Kusal, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. An over into the match, he was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Umesh Yadav.

Sri Lanka scored 50 off 9.5 overs (59 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 56 balls. While Tillakaratne Dilshan’s contribution to the partnership was 35, Kumar Sangakkara’s contribution to it was 14. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Dilshan, whose 30-ball innings included seven boundaries, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Fifty-seven balls after Kusal’s dismissal, Axar Patel broke the 51-run partnership.

Jayawardene, who faced 11 balls, scored just four. Twenty balls (Mahe)later, he was caught by Ambati Rayudu, the player of the match. Ravichandran Ashwin broke the nine-run stand.

Sixteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 70 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Sangakkara was batting on 22, Mathews was batting on three.

Sri Lanka scored 100 off 21.2 overs (128 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave India no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 56 balls. While Sangakkara’s contribution to the partnership was 22, Mathews’ contribution to it was 27. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Sangakkara’s half-century – which included three boundaries – came off 73 balls. He eventually scored 61 off 86 balls, which included four boundaries. A hundred and eleven balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was caught by Shikhar Dhawan. Yadav broke the 90-run partnership.

The second Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 32nd and the 36th over. They scored 30, and lost three wickets.

Sri Lanka scored 150 off 31.1 overs (187 balls). India had conceded eight extras at that point.

Mathews’ half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 63 balls.

Thirty-five overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 172 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Mathews was batting on 54, Seekkuge Prasanna was batting on nine.

Prasanna, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six, eventually scored 13. Nineteen balls after Sangakkara’s dismissal, he was caught by Rayudu. Ravindra Jadeja broke the 23-run stand.

The sixth-wicket pair put on a couple. Ashan Priyanjan, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Three balls later, Rayudu and Jadeja ran him out.

Sri Lanka scored 200 off 39.5 overs (239 balls). India had conceded nine extras at that point.

Thisara Perera, whose (Pat)eleven-ball innings included a six, scored 10. Twenty-six balls after Priyanjan’s dismissal, the left-arm spinner broke the run-a-ball stand.

Suraj Randiv, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Eighteen balls later, Ashwin broke the 10-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 250 off 47.4 overs (287 balls). India had conceded 14 extras at that point.

The ninth-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. While Mathews’ contribution to the partnership was 11, Dhammika Prasad’s contribution to it was 30. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was nine.

Mathews, whose 101-ball innings included 10 boundaries and a six, scored 92. He was unbeaten, as was Prasad, who didn’t add to the aforementioned score. His 28-ball innings included four boundaries.

India eventually conceded 18 extras. Sri Lanka scored 274 for the loss of eight wickets off 50 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled 10 overs apiece. Ishant Sharma, who conceded 58, was wicketless. Jadeja, who conceded 64, picked up a wicket.

Yadav, Ashwin and Patel – whose spell included a maiden each – conceded 54, 49, and 39, respectively. They picked up a couple of wickets apiece.

India scored 150 off 28.1 overs (169 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Thirty-two overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 170 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Rayudu was batting on 67, Virat Kohli, India’s skipper, was batting on 14.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 34th and the 39th over. They scored 55, without the loss of a wicket.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 46 balls. While Rayudu’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Kohli’s contribution to it was 20. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

India scored 200 off 35 overs (211 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded three extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Rayudu’s ton – which included seven boundaries and four sixes – came off 101 balls. He eventually scored 121 off 118 balls, which included 10 boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. He was unbeaten.

The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 82 balls. While Rayudu’s contribution to the partnership was 57, Kohli’s contribution to it was 46. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

India scored 250 off 41.5 overs (252 balls).

Kohli, whose 44-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 49. Ninety-seven balls after Dhawan’s dismissal, he was caught by Randiv. Prasanna broke the 116-run partnership.

Suresh Raina, whose six-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 14. He was unbeaten.

Jadeja, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

Sri Lanka, who scored 275 for the loss of four wickets off 44.3 overs, lost by half-a-dozen wickets with 33 balls to spare.

Priyanjan and Dilshan bowled two wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 14, the latter conceded nine. Thisara and Mathews bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 35, the latter conceded 18.

Lahiru Gamage bowled eight wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 28. Randiv, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 66.

Prasad, who bowled seven overs, conceded 51. He picked up a wicket. Prasanna, who bowled 7.3 overs, conceded 53. He picked up three scalps.
