India triumph; Bangladesh are D(rav)i(sheartene)d

Owing to rain, there was a delay at the beginning of the match, which was reduced to 49-overs-a-side. India made a Ch(awl)ange to their playing eleven – Sreesanth made way for One-day International debutant Piyush. Bangladesh made just one change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Shahadat Hossain made way for Mashrafe Mortaza.

On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, India’s skipper, chose to bat. Virender Sehwag, whose 26-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 21. Forty-six balls into the match, he was caught by Javed Omar. Syed Rasel broke the 43-run stand.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. They scored 50 off 10.3 overs. Bangladesh had conceded five extras at that point.

Fifteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 74 for the loss of one wicket at that point. While Gautam Gambhir, the player of the match, was batting on 31, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was batting on 13.

India’s second-wicket pair put on 50 off 66 balls. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 22, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

India scored 100 off 19.5 overs. Bangladesh had conceded nine extras at that point. Gambhir’s half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 65 balls.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 26th and the 31st over. They scored 150 off 29.3 overs. Bangladesh had conceded 10 extras at that point. Yuvraj Singh, whose 22-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 24. Thirty-seven balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, he was caught by Rafique, who broke the 44-run stand.

Thirty-two overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 174 for the loss of three wickets at that point. Gambhir was batting on 81. They scored 200 off 37 overs. Bangladesh had conceded a dozen extras at that point.

Gambhir’s ton – which included 111 boundaries – came off 111 balls. Gambhir, whose 113-ball innings included 11 extras, eventually scored 101. Thirty-nine balls later, Rasel broke the 36-run stand. Dravid, whose 47-ball innings included a boundary, scored 42. He was unbeaten.

Dinesh Mongia, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 17. Twenty-nine balls later, he was caught by Rafique. Abdur Razzak broke the run-a-ball stand. They scored 250 off 44.3 overs. Bangladesh had conceded 13 extras at that point.

Dinesh Karthik, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Eight balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Rafique, who broke the 12-run stand. Chawla, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Five balls later, he was stumped by Rahim. Needless to say, Razzak was in seventh heaven.

Ramesh Powar, who faced 11 balls, scored five. Sixteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Mortaza, who broke the 15-run stand. Zaheer Khan, whose four-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored nine. He was unbeaten.

Bangladesh eventually conceded 22 extras. India scored 284 for the loss of eight wickets off 50 overs. Aftab Ahmed, who faced a couple of overs, conceded a dozen. He was wicketless, as was Shakib Al Hasan, who bowled seven overs, conceding 40. Mortaza, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 57. He picked up a wicket.

Razzak and Rasel bowled 10 overs each, picking up a couple of wickets apiece. While the former conceded 59, the latter, whose spell including a maiden, conceded 49. Rafique, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 59. He picked up three scalps.

Bangladesh’s innings was preceded by the lunch interval. Their openers put on 18. Although his 12-(Iq)ball innings included a boundary, Tamim had no reason to be in seventh heaven – five overs into the Ch(awl)ase, the leggie and Dhoni ran him out.

The second Powerplay of Bangladesh’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. They scored 50 off 10.2 overs. India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. Omar, whose 33-ball innings included a boundary scored 11. Thirty-four balls later, he was caught by Karthik. Khan broke the 33-run stand.

Shakib, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Khan broke the nine-run stand. Seventy-five balls into the chase, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 60 for the loss of three wickets at that point. Aftab Ahmed was batting on 30.

Ahmed, whose 41-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually scored 40. Nineteen balls later, Powar broke the six-run stand. Bangladesh scored 100 off 22.2 overs. India had conceded 12 extras at that point.

Thirty-two overs into the chase, there was an innings break. Bangladesh had scored 137 for the loss of five wickets at that point. While Habibul Bashar, their skipper, was batting on 23, Rahim was batting on 26.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 80 balls. While Bashar’s contribution to the partnership was 21, Rahim’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run. Bangladesh scored 150 off 34.4 overs. India had conceded 13 extras at that point.

Rahim, whose 43-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 35. Ninety-two balls later, he was caught by Karthik. Yuvraj broke the 59-run stand. Bashar, whose 88-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 43. Thirty-one balls later, he was stumped by Dhoni. Chawla broke the 26-run stand.

Rafique, whose 19-ball (Rob)innings included a six, scored 13. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Uthappa. Chawla broke the 16-run stand. Bangladesh scored 200 off 45.1 overs. India had conceded 17 extras at that point.

Mortaza, whose 22-ball innings included a boundary and five sixes, scored 42. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Sehwag. Yuvraj broke the 38-run stand. Razzak, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. He was unbeaten, as was Rasel, who faced seven balls, scoring four.

India eventually conceded 17 extras. Bangladesh, who scored 238 for the loss of nine wickets off 49 overs, lost by 46 runs. Patel bowled seven overs, conceding 34. He was wicketless, as was Mongia bowled eight overs, conceding 57. Powar bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 32, picking up a wicket.

Yuvraj and Khan bowled seven overs each, picking up two wickets apiece. While the former conceded 40, the latter conceded 32. Chawla bowled 10 overs each, conceding 37. He picked up three scalps.

India led the three-match series 2-0.
