first One-day International for 2007. India made five changes to their playing
eleven – Virender Sehwag, V V S Laxman, Dinesh Mongia, Irfan Pathan and Anil
Kumble made way for Gautam Gambhir, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid (who was
leading the team), Suresh Raina and Ajit Agarkar.

Ian Bradshaw and Smith bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 43, the latter conceded 34. Jerome Taylor and Samuels bowled 10 wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 71, the latter conceded 53. Gayle bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 51, picking up a couple of scalps.
Gayle, whose 46-ball innings included 10 boundaries, scored 54. Seventy-three balls into the chase, he was caught by Dravid. Harbhajan Singh broke the 80-run partnership. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the player of the match, scored 149. His 136-ball innings included 16 boundaries and three sixes. He was unbeaten.
Runako Morton, whose 16-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Twenty-five balls later, Harbhajan broke the 22-run stand. Samuels, whose 60-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 40. A hundred and one balls later, Zaheer Khan broke the 73-run partnership.
