India don’t WIn, are D(rav)i(sappointe)d

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Ramesh Powar made way for R P Singh. The West Indies made a couple of changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Wavell Hinds and Corey Collymore made way for Ian Bradshaw and Jerome Taylor.

On winning the toss, Brian Lara, the West Indies’ skipper, inserted the hosts. Virender Sehwag, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 17. Twenty-seven balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Taylor, who broke the 22-run stand.

Irfan Pathan, who faced half-a-dozen balls, didn’t get off the mark. Nine balls later, Bradshaw broke the five-run stand. The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and 15th over.

India scored 50 off 12.2 overs. The West Indies had conceded four extras at that point. Fifteen overS(ach)into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 61 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Tendulkar was batting on 23, Rahul Dravid, India’s skipper, was batting on 17.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 16th and 20th over. Tendulkar, whose 45-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 29. Sixty-five balls later, Bradshaw broke the 42-run stand.

India scored 100 off 24 overs. The West Indies had conceded seven extras at that point. The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 69 balls. While Dravid’s contribution to the partnership was 29, Yuvraj Singh’s contribution to it was 18. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Yuvraj, whose 43-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 27. Eighty balls later, he was caught by Dwayne Bravo. Bradshaw broke the 61-run partnership. A hundred and eighty-one balls into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 130 for the loss of four wickets at that point. Dravid was batting on 49.

India’s fifth-wicket pair put on just a run. The Wall, whose 67-ball innings included five boundaries, D(rav)idn’t add to the aforementioned score. Five balls later, Dwayne Smith ran him out.

India scored 150 off 38.1 overs. The West Indies had conceded 11 extras at that point. Suresh Raina, whose 37-ball innings included a boundary, scored 19. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Carlton Baugh. Marlon Samuels broke the 33-run stand.

India scored 200 off 46.5 overs. The West Indies had conceded 13 extras at that point. Harbhajan Singh, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored 15. Thirty-nine balls later, Taylor broke the 49-run stand.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s half-century – which included a boundary and a couple of sixes – scored 64 balls. India’s eighth-wicket pair put on 10. Dhoni, who faced 65 balls, eventually scored 51. Eight balls later, Baugh and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the player of the match, ran him out.

The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Ajit Agarkar, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. The next ball, Baugh ran him out. R P, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

The West Indies eventually conceded 15 extras. India scored 223 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs. Chris Gayle, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 34. Bravo, who bowled seven wicketless overs, conceded 51. Smith bowled 10 wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 37.

Samuels, who bowled nine overs, conceded 35. He picked up a wicket. Taylor bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 33, picking up a couple of wickets. Bradshaw, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 30. He picked up three scalps.

Gayle, who 37-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 34. Fifty-seven balls later into the chase, he was caught by R P. Patel broke the 43-run stand. The second Powerplay of the West Indies’ innings was between the 11th and 15th over.

Chanderpaul’s half-century – which included eight boundaries – came off 65 balls. He faced 72 balls, eventually scoring 51. Five overs after Bravo’s dismissal, he was caught by Dravid. Sehwag broke the 20-run stand.

Thirty-two overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. The West Indies had scored 135 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Ramnaresh Sarwan was batting on 20, Runako Morton was batting on four. The West Indies scored 150 off 35.4 overs. India had conceded 10 extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 85 balls. While Sarwan’s contribution to the partnership was 27, Bravo’s contribution to it was 20. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three. Sarwan’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries – came off 76 balls. The West Indies scored 200 off 45.5 overs. India had conceded 12 extras at that point.

Morton, whose 64-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and the only six of the innings, scored 45. A hundred and twenty-five balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Agarkar, who broke the 92-run partnership.

Brian Lara, the West Indies’ skipper, scored five. His run-a-ball innings included a boundary. Five balls later, Pathan broke the six-run stand. The six-wicket pair put on just a run. Sarwan, who faced 81 balls, scored 53. A couple of balls later, Dravid and Pathan ran him out.

Samuels, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. He was unbeaten. The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Smith, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. A ball after Sarwan’s dismissal, he was dismissed by Agarkar. Baugh, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

India eventually conceded 14 extras. The West Indies, who scored 224 for the loss of seven wickets off 49.4 overs, won by three wickets with two balls to spare. Yuvraj bowled three overs, conceding 15. He was wicketless, as was R P, who bowled four overs, conceding 29.

Pathan bowled five overs, conceding 34. He picked up a wicket. Patel bowled eight overs, including two maidens. He conceded 29, picking up a wicket.

Sehwag and Harbhajan bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 36, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 27. Agarkar bowled 9.4 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 52, picking up a couple of scalps.
