Dravid-led India beat the Englishmen

India (Moham)made three changes to their playing eleven – Kaif, Dinesh Mongia and R P Singh made way for Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj Singh and Ramesh Powar. England made five changes to the (Micha)eleven that last played the Indians – Matt Prior, Geraint Jones, Ian Blackwell, Liam Plunkett and Kabir Ali made way for Andrew Flintoff (who was leading the team), Yardy, Jamie Dalrymple, Chris Read and Steve Harmison.

On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, India’s skipper, inserted the Englishmen. Ian Bell had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just four. Twenty balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Munaf Patel, the player of the match, who broke the 10-run stand.

Flintoff, who faced seven balls, didn’t open his account. Nine balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Pathan, who broke the one-run stand. Yardy, who faced nine balls, scored four. Sixteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Patel, who broke the six-run stand.

The second Powerplay of England’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. Andrew Strauss, whose 32-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Twenty-eight balls later, he was caught by Dravid. Pathan broke the 10-run stand.

The third Powerplay of England’s innings was between the 16th and the 20th over. Sixteen overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. England had scored 44 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Kevin Pietersen was batting on 17, Paul Collingwood was batting on six.

England scored 50 off 17.4 overs. India had conceded three extras at that point. Pietersen, whose 39-ball inningS(ach)included four boundaries, scored 27. Forty balls later, he was caught by Tendulkar. Patel broke the 28-run stand.

England scored 100 off 29.3 overs. India had conceded four extras at that point. Collingwood, whose 54-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 38. Sixty-nine balls later, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Powar broke the 49-ball stand.

Read, who faced seven balls, scored a couple. Nine balls later, he was caught by Pathan. Harbhajan Singh broke the three-run stand. Sajid Mahmood, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan. Powar broke the 12-run stand.

Dalrymple, who faced 46 balls, scored 24. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Dravid. Powar broke the five-run stand. Steve Harmison, who faced eight balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten. The last-wicket pair on a run. James Anderson, who faced a ball, scored a run. Three balls later, Powar ran him out.

India eventually scored five extras. England were dismissed for 125 off 37 overs. Ajit Agarkar, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 34. Harbhajan, who bowled eight overs, conceded 27. He picked up a wicket.

Pathan bowled eight overs, including three maidens. He conceded 20, picking up a couple of wickets. Powar bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He conceded 24, picking up three scalps. Patel bowled eight overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 18, picking up three scalps.

Virender Sehwag, whose four-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored nine. Nine balls later, he was caught by Strauss. Harmison broke the 18-run stand. India scored 50 off 5.5 overs. England had conceded a dozen extras at that point.

Eight overs into the chase, there was a lunch interval. India had scored 55 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Tendulkar was batting on 19, Pathan was batting on 15. The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 49 balls. While Tendulkar’s contribution to it was 26, Pathan contribution to it was 19. Extras’ contribution to it was five.

Pathan, whose 34-ball innings included four boundaries, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Fifty-two balls later, he was caught by Pietersen. Anderson broke the 50-run partnership. Dravid, who faced three balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Three balls later, he was caught by Strauss. Anderson broke the four-run stand.

Tendulkar, whose 41-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 35. Forty-five balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Harmison, who broke the 26-run stand. Yuvraj, whose 61-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 27. He was unbeaten. India scored 100 off 19 overs. England had conceded 16 extras at that point.

Twenty-three balls into the chase, the drinks break was taken. India had scored 112 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Yuvraj was batting on 23, Dhoni was batting on five. The latter, who faced 22 balls, eventually had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 50 balls later, he was caught by Collingwood. Dalrymple broke the 21-run stand.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Suresh Raina, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was dismissed by Dalrymple. Harbhajan, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.

England eventually conceded 19 extras. India, who scored 126 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 29.3 overs, won by four wickets with 123 balls to spare. Yardy, who bowled four overs, conceded 10. He was wicketless, as was Mahmood, who bowled 8.3 overs, conceded 30.

Dalrymple, who bowled four overs, conceded five. He picked up two wickets. Harmison, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 34. He picked up two wickets. Anderson bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 40, picking up two wickets.
