Visiting WI beat India Ko(h)(mfortab)li

India made Cha(h)ar changes to their playing eleven – Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed and Yuzvendra Chahal made way for Lokesh Rahul, One-day International debutant Shivam Dube, Deepak and Kuldeep Yadav.

The West Indies made five changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Carlos Brathwaite, Fabian Allen and Kemar Roach made way for Sunil Ambris, Kieron Pollard (who was leading the team, and inserted the hosts on winning the toss), Hayden Walsh Jr, Alzarri Joseph and Sheldon Cottrell.

The first Powerplay of India’s innings was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 33, and lost a couple of wickets.

Rahul, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Thirty-eight balls into the match, he was caught by Shimron Hetmyer, the player of the match. Cottrell broke the 21-run stand.

Virat Kohli, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a boundary. Four balls later, Cottrell broke the run-a-ball stand.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 183, and lost three wickets.

India scored 50 off 12.1 overs (73 balls). The West Indies had conceded eight extras at that point.

Sixteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 73 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Rohit Sharma was batting on 33, Shreyas Iyer was batting on 22.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 100 off 99 balls. While Iyer’s contribution to the partnership was 40, Pant’s contribution to it was 55. The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave the West Indies no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Iyer, whose 88-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually scored 70. A hundred and eleven balls after Sharma’s dismissal, he was caught by Pollard. Joseph broke the 114-run partnership.

India scored 200 off 38.3 overs (233 balls). The West Indies had conceded 17 extras at that point.

Pant, whose 69-ball innings included seven boundaries and a six, eventually scored 71. Eighteen balls after Iyer’s dismissal, he was caught by Hetmyer. Pollard broke the 16-run stand.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 41st and the 50th over. They scored 71, and lost three wickets.

India scored 250 off 45 overs (272 balls). The West Indies had conceded 20 extras at that point.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 38 balls. While Kedar Jadhav’s contribution to the partnership was 27, Ravindra Jadeja’s contribution to it was 19. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

The West Indies eventually conceded 24 extras. India scored 287 for the loss of eight wickets off 50 overs. Walsh Jr, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 31. Chase, who bowled seven wicketless overs, conceded 42. Holder, who bowled eight wicketless overs, conceded 45.

Pollard, who bowled four overs, conceded 28. He picked up a wicket. Paul, who bowled seven overs, conceded 40. He picked up a couple of wickets. Joseph bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 45, picking up a couple of wickets. Cottrell bowled 10 overs, including three maidens. He conceded 46, picking up a couple of scalps.

Hope, who faced 151 balls, eventually scored 102. He was unbeaten, as was Pooran, who eventually scored 29. His 23-ball innings included four extras.

The West Indies, who scored 291 for the loss of two wickets off 47.5 overs, won by eight wickets with 13 balls to spare. Jadhav bowled a wicketless over, conceding 11. Dube bowled 7.5 wicketless overs, conceding 68. Jadeja and Yadav bowled 10 wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 58, the latter conceded 45.

Shami bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 57, picking up a wicket. Chahar bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 48, picking up a scalp.

The West Indies led the three-match series 1-0.
