Kohli-led India (Ki)win, level series

India made just one change to their playing (Pat)eleven – Kuldeep Yadav made way for Axar.

New Zealand made no changes to the eleven that last played the Indians.

(Williams)On winning the toss, Kane, New Zealand’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of New Zealand’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 35, and lost three wickets.

Guptill, whose (Dho)nine-ball (Mart)innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Sixteen balls into the match, he was caught by Mahendra Singh. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, broke the 20-run stand.

Thirty-four balls into the match, New Zealand sought a batting review. Williamson, the batsman, faced 14 balls, scoring just three. Using the umpire’s call, it was struck down by umpire Chettithody Shamshuddin. Eighteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Jasprit Bumrah, who broke the five-run stand.

Munro, whose 17-ball (Col)innings included a six, scored 10. Eight balls later, Kumar broke the two-run stand.

The second Powerplay of New Zealand’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 133, and lost three wickets.

New Zealand scored 50 off 13.5 overs (83 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

Ross Taylor, whose 33-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 21. (Dho)Nine balls after Munro’s dismissal, he was caught behind. Hardik Pandya broke the 31-run stand.

New Zealand scored 100 off 26 overs (156 balls). India had conceded five extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 67 balls. While Tom Latham’s contribution to the partnership was 25, Henry Nicholls’ contribution to it was 22. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Latham, whose 62-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 38. Seventy-nine balls after Taylor’s dismissal, Patel broke the 60-run partnership.

New Zealand scored 150 off 35.1 overs (211 balls). India had conceded five extras at that point.

Thirty-six overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. New Zealand had scored 156 for the loss of five wickets at that point. While Nicholls was batting on 40, Colin de Grandhomme was batting on 28.

Nicholls, whose 62-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 42. Fifty-two balls after Latham’s dismissal, Kumar broke the 47-run partnership.

The third Powerplay of New Zealand’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 41st and the 50th over. They scored 62, and lost three wickets.

De Grandhomme, whose 40-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually scored 41. Thirty-two balls after Nicholls’ dismissal, he was caught by Bumrah. Yuzvendra Chahal broke the 23-run stand.

Two hundred and sixty balls into the match (and a dot ball after de Grandhomme’s dismissal), New Zealand sought a batting review. Adam Milne, the batsman, faced a ball, failing to get off the mark. It was struck down by Shamshuddin. He was trapped leg before wicket by Chahal.

New Zealand scored 200 off 46.3 overs (279 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Mitchell Santner, whose 38-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 29. Thirty-three balls after Milne’s dismissal, he was caught by Virat Kohli, India’s skipper. Bumrah broke the 32-run stand.

Forty-nine overs into the match, India sought a bowling review. Tim Southee was the batsman. It was struck down by Australian umpire Rod Tucker.

Southee, whose 22-ball innings included a boundary and a six, eventually scored 25. He was unbeaten, as was Trent Boult, who faced a couple of balls, scoring as many.

India eventually conceded eight extras. New Zealand scored 230 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs.

Kedar Jadhav bowled eight wicketless overs, conceding 31.

Pandya bowled four overs, conceding 23. He picked up a wicket, as did Patel, who bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 54.

Chahal bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He conceded 36, picking up a couple of wickets.

Bumrah bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 38, picking up a couple of wickets.

Kumar bowled 10 overs, conceding 45. He picked up three scalps.

Seventeen overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 90 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Dhawan was batting on 41, Dinesh Karthik was in seventh heaven.

India scored 100 off 20 overs (120 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave New Zealand no reason to be in seventh heaven.

It was at that point that India sought a batting review. Dhawan was the batsman. It was upheld by Shamshuddin.

Dhawan’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 63 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 71 balls. While Dhawan’s contribution to the partnership was 24, Karthik’s contribution to it was 25. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

Dhawan, whose 84-ball innings included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to a couple of sixes, eventually scored 68. Ninety-three balls after Kohli’s dismissal, he was caught by Taylor. Milne broke the 66-run partnership.

India scored 150 off 31.3 overs (189 balls). New Zealand had conceded 13 extras at that point.

Thirty-three overs into the chase, the third drinks break was taken. India had scored 161 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Karthik was batting on 32, Pandya had scored a dozen.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 59 balls. While Karthik’s contribution to the partnership was 19, Pandya’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

India scored 200 off 39.2 overs (236 balls). New Zealand had conceded 15 extras at that point.

Pandya, whose 31-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually scored 30. Sixty-five balls after Dhawan’s dismissal, he was caught by Milne. Santner broke the 59-run partnership.

Karthik’s half-century – which included three boundaries – came off 76 balls.

Karthik, whose 92-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 64. He was unbeaten, as was Dhoni, who scored 18. His 21-ball innings included three boundaries.

New Zealand eventually scored 16 extras. India, who scored 232 for the loss of four wickets off 46 overs, won by half-a-dozen wickets with four overs to spare.

Munro bowled a couple of overs, conceding 12. He was wicketless, as was Boult, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 54.

De Grandhomme bowled seven overs, conceding 40. He picked up a wicket.

Milne bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He conceded 21, picking up a wicket.

Southee bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 60, picking up a wicket.

Santner bowled 10 overs, conceding 38. He picked up a wicket.
