Kohli-led India aren’t the WInners

India made three changes to their playing (Khale)eleven – Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav made way for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ahmed and Jasprit Bumrah.

The West Indies made one change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Devendra Bishoo made way for One-day International debutant Fabian Allen.

On winning the toss, Virat Kohli, India’s skipper, inserted the West Indies.

The first Powerplay of the West Indies’ innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 46, and lost a couple of wickets.

Four overs into the match, India sought a bowling review. Chandrapaul Hemraj was the batsman. It was struck down by umpire Chettithody Shamshuddin.

Hemraj, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 15. Thirty-five balls into the match, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Bumrah broke the 25-run stand.

Kieran Powell, whose 25-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 21. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Rohit Sharma. Bumrah broke the 13-run stand.

Nine overs into the match, the West Indies sought a batting review. Marlon Samuels was the batsman. It was upheld by Australian umpire Paul Wilson.

The second Powerplay of the West Indies’ innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 165, and lost four wickets.

The West Indies scored 50 off 12.1 overs (73 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

Samuels, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scoreD(ho)nine. Thirty balls after Kieran’s dismissal, he was caught behind. Ahmed broke the 17-run stand.

The West Indies scored 100 off 18.4 overs (112 balls). India had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 34 balls. While Shai Hope’s contribution to the partnership was 18, Shimron Hetmyer’s contribution to it was 31. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Hetmyer, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 37. Thirty-eight balls after Samuels’ dismissal, he was stumped by Dhoni. Kuldeep Yadav broke the 56-run partnership.

Rovman Powell, who faced 16 balls, scored just four. Twenty-five balls later, he was caught by Sharma. Kuldeep broke the 10-run stand.

Thirty overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. The West Indies had scored 142 for the loss of five wickets at that point. While Hope was batting on 46, Jason Holder, their skipper, was in seventh heaven.

The West Indies scored 150 off 31.3 overs (189 balls). India had conceded three extras at that point.

Hope’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a six – came off 72 balls.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 64 balls. While Hope’s contribution to the partnership was 28, Holder’s contribution to it was 21. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Holder, whose 39-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually scored 32. Eighty-nine balls after Powell’s dismissal, he was caught by the substitute, Jadeja. Kumar broke the 76-run partnership.

The West Indies scored 200 off 38.5 overs (233 balls). India had conceded four extras at that point.

The third Powerplay of the West Indies’ innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 41st and the 50th over. They scored 72, and lost three wickets.

Although his innings included a boundary, Allen was in seventh heaven – he scored just five. Eighteen balls after Holder’s dismissal, he was caught by Rishabh Pant. Yuzvendra Chahal broke the 20-run stand.

Hope, whose 113-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 95. Fourteen balls later, Bumrah broke the 10-run stand.

The West Indies scored 250 off 46.5 overs (281 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave India no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The ninth-wicket pair put on 50 off 32 balls. While the contribution of Ashley Nurse, the player of the match, to the partnership was 35, Kemar Roach’s contribution to it was 11. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Two hundred and ninety-nine overs into the match, the West Indies sought a batting review. Nurse, the batsman, eventually scored 40. His 22-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes. It was struck down by Shamshuddin. He was trapped leg before wicket by Bumrah, who broke the 56-run partnership.

Roach, whose 19-ball innings included a boundary and a six, eventually scored 15. He was unbeaten, as was Obey McCoy, who faced a ball, failing to get off the mark.

India eventually conceded 10 extras. The West Indies scored 283 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs.

The five bowlers bowled 10 overs apiece.

Kumar and Ahmed picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 70, the latter conceded 65.

Chahal, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 56. He picked up a wicket.

Kuldeep, who conceded 52, picking up a couple of wickets.

Bumrah, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 35. He picked up four scalps.

Chahal, who faced five balls, scored three. Nine balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Keemo Paul. Roach broke the five-run stand.

Kuldeep, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary, scored 15. He was unbeaten.

Ahmed, who faced 11 balls, eventually scored three. Three overs after Chahal’s dismissal, he was stumped by Hope. Samuels broke the 12-run stand.

Bumrah, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Ten balls later, he was caught by Holder. Samuels broke the three-run stand.

The West Indies eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. India, who were dismissed for 240 off 47.4 overs, lost by 43 runs.

Allen, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 52.

Roach, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 48. He picked up a wicket.

McCoy, who bowled five overs, conceded 38. He picked up two wickets.

Holder, who bowled nine overs, conceded 46. He picked up two wickets.

Nurse, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 43. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Samuels bowled 3.4 overs, including a maiden. He conceded a dozen, picked up three scalps.
