Sharma-led India beat the iSLanders

India made one change to their playing eleven – Washington Sundar made way for Kuldeep Yadav, the player of the match.

Sri Lanka (Samarawickra)made one change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Lahiru Thirimanne made way for Sadeera.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, India’s skipper, inserted the visitors.

The first Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 68, and lost a wicket.

Danushka Gunathilaka, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 13. Twenty-two balls into the match, he was caught by Sharma. Jasprit Bumrah broke the 15-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 50 off as many balls (8.2 overs). India hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 31 balls. While Upul Tharanga’s contribution to the partnership was 46, Samarawickrama’s contribution to it was four. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

The second Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 143, and lost seven wickets.

Tharanga’s half-century – which included 10 boundaries – came off 36 balls.

Sri Lanka scored 100 off 17 overs (102 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

It was at that point that the first drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 100 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Tharanga was batting on 59, Samarawickrama was batting on 27.

The second-wicket pair put on 100 off 92 balls. While Tharanga’s contribution to the partnership was 71, Samarawickrama’s contribution to it was 29. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Samarawickrama, whose 57-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 42. A hundred and thirteen balls after Gunathilaka’s dismissal, he was caught by Shikhar Dhawan, the player of the series. Yuzvendra Chahal broke the 121-run partnership.

Sri Lanka scored 150 off 25.3 overs (153 balls). India had conceded four extras at that point.

Tharanga, whose 82-ball innings included a dozen boundaries and three sixes, eventually scoreD(ho)ninety-five. Twenty-eight balls after Samarawickrama’s dismissal, he was stumped. Yadav broke the 24-run stand.

Niroshan, who faced four balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Four balls (Dickwel)later, he was caught by Shreyas Iyer. Yadav broke the eight-run stand.

Thirty-three balls into the match, the second drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 187 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Angelo Mathews was batting on 16, Asela Gunaratne had scored half-a-dozen.

Mathews, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 17. Thirty-six balls after Dickwella’s dismissal, Chahal broke the 21-run stand.

Two hundred and eleven balls into the match, Sri Lanka sought a batting review. Thisara Perera, Sri Lanka’s skipper and the batsman, faced (Cha)half-a-dozen balls, scoring as many. Using the umpire’s call, it was struck down by umpire Nitin Menon. He was trapped leg before wicket by the leggie, who broke the eight-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 200 off 35.4 overs (214 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave India no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Although his 12-ball innings included a boundary, Sachith Pathirana had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 21 balls later, he was caught by Chahal. Hardik Pandya broke the 11-run stand.

Dananjaya, who faced four balls, scored a run. Seven balls (Aki)later, he was caught by Yadav, who broke the two-run stand.

The third Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 41st and the 50th over. They scored four, and lost a couple of wickets.

Suranga Lakmal, whose faced a couple of balls, scored a run. A couple of balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Pandya, who broke the one-run stand.

Gunaratne, who faced 51 balls, scored just 17. Ten balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Bhuvneshwar Kumar broke the four-run stand.

Nuwan Pradeep, who faced 11 balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

India eventually conceded eight extras. Sri Lanka were dismissed for 215 off 44.5 overs.

Kumar bowled 6.5 overs, conceding 35. He picked up a wicket, as did Bumrah, who bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He conceded 39.

Pandya bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 49, picking up two wickets.

Chahal and Yadav bowled 10 overs each, picking up three scalps apiece. While the former, whose spell included three maidens, conceded 46, the latter conceded 42.

The second-wicket pair put on 100 off 90 balls. While Dhawan’s contribution to the partnership was 37, Iyer’s contribution to it was 58. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was half-a-dozen.

Iyer, whose 63-ball innings included eight boundaries and a six, eventually scored 65. A hundred and fourteen balls after Sharma’s dismissal, he was caught by Lakmal. Perera broke the 135-run partnership.

India scored 150 off 22.5 overs (137 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded 18 extras at that point.

Twenty-five overs into the chase, India sought a batting review. Dinesh Karthik was the batsman. It was upheld by Australian umpire Simon Fry.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 48 balls. While Dhawan’s contribution to the partnership was 33, Karthik’s contribution to it was 16. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

India scored 200 off 30.5 overs (185 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded 19 extras at that point.

Dhawan’s ton – which included 13 boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 84 balls. He eventually faced 85 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned score, and was unbeaten, as was Karthik, who eventually scored 26. His 31-ball innings included three boundaries.

Sri Lanka eventually conceded 21 extras. India, who scored 219 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 32.1 overs, won by eight wickets with 107 balls to spare.

Gunathilaka bowled a wicketless over, conceding 10.

Mathews and Pradeep bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 30, the latter conceded 10.

Pathirana and Gunaratne bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 33, the latter conceded 30.

Lakmal bowled five wicketless overs, including two maidens. He conceded 20.

Perera bowled five overs, conceding 30. He picked up a wicket, as was Dananjaya, who bowled 7.1 overs, conceding 53.
