Australia disappointed; India K(oh)linch series

India made no changes to their playing eleven.

Australia made a couple oF(in)changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Hilton Cartwright and Matthew Wade made way for Aaron and Peter Handscomb.

On winning the toss, Steven Smith, Australia’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of Australia’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 49, without the loss of a wicket.

The second Powerplay of Australia’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 185, and lost two wickets.

Australia’s openers scored 50 off 10.1 overs (61 balls). India had conceded three extras at that point. While David Warner’s contribution to the partnership was 25, Finch’s contribution to it was 22.

Warner, whose 44-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 42. Eighty-one balls into the match, Hardik Pandya, the player of the match, broke the 70-run partnership.

Sixteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. Australia had scored 79 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Finch was batting on 26, Smith was in seventh heaven.

Australia scored 100 off 19.3 overs (117 balls). India had conceded four extras at that point.

Finch’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 61 balls.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 54 balls. While Finch’s contribution to the partnership was 31, Smith’s contribution to it was 20. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Australia scored 150 off 27.2 overs (164 balls). India had conceded four extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 100 off 99 balls. While Finch’s contribution to the partnership was 67, Smith’s contribution to it was 34. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Finch’s ton – which included 11 boundaries and three sixes – came off 110 balls.

Australia scored 200 off 34.2 overs (206 balls). India had conceded four extras at that point.

Thirty-five overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. Australia had scored 206 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Finch was batting on 113, Smith was batting on 45.

The second-wicket pair put on 150 off 140 balls. While Finch’s contribution to the partnership was 98, Smith’s contribution to it was 49. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Smith’s half-century – which included four boundaries – came off 55 balls.

Finch, whose 125-ball innings included a dozen boundaries and five sixes, eventually scored 124. A hundred and forty-six balls after Warner’s dismissal, he was caught by Kedar Jadhav. Kuldeep Yadav broke the 154-run partnership.

The third Powerplay of Australia’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 41st and the 50th over. They scored 59, and lost four wickets.

Smith, whose 71-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 63. Twenty-five balls after Finch’s dismissal, he was caught by Jasprit Bumrah. Yadav broke the 19-run stand.

The fourth-wicket pair D(hon)idn’t get off the mark. Glenn Maxwell, who faced 13 balls, scored five. The next ball, he was stumped by Mahendra Singh off the bowling of Yuzvendra Chahal.

Australia scored 250 off 43.2 overs (260 balls). India had conceded nine extras at that point.

Two hundred and sixty-six balls into the match, India sought a bowling review. Marcus Stoinis was the batsman. It was struck down by umpire Chettithody Shamshuddin.

Travis Head, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored four. Twenty balls after Maxwell’s dismissal, Bumrah broke the 17-run stand.

Stoinis, whose 28-ball innings included a boundary and a six, eventually scored 27. He was unbeaten.

Handscomb had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just three. Fourteen balls into the match, he was caught by Manish Pandey. Bumrah broke the 15-run stand.

Ashton Agar, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. He was unbeaten.

India eventually conceded 16 extras. Australia scored 293 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 50 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled 10 overs apiece.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who conceded 52, was wicketless.

Pandya and Chahal conceded 58 and 54, respectively. They picked up a wicket apiece.

Yadav and Bumrah conceded 75 and 52, respectively. They picked up a couple of scalps apiece.

Sharma, whose 62-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes, eventually scored 71. A hundred and thirty balls into the chase, he was caught by the substitute, Cartwright. Nathan Coulter-Nile broke the 139-run partnership.

Rahane, whose 76-ball innings included nine boundaries, eventually scored 70. Eleven balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Cummins, who broke the eight-run stand.

India scored 150 off 24.1 overs (145 balls). Australia had conceded four extras at that point.

Thirty-two overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 193 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Virat Kohli, India’s skipper, was batting on 22, Pandya was batting on 26.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 55 balls. While Kohli’s contribution to the partnership was 23, Pandya’s contribution to it was 27. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

India scored 200 off 33.3 overs (201 balls). Australia had conceded four extras at that point.

Kohli, whose 35-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 28. Sixty-six balls after Rahane’s dismissal, he was caught by Finch. Agar broke the 56-run partnership.

Jadhav, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Five balls later, he was caught by Handscomb. Kane Richardson broke the three-run stand.

Pandya’s half-century – which included a boundary and four sixes – came off 45 balls.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 41st and the 50th over. They scored 54, and lost a wicket.

India scored 250 off 42 overs (252 balls). Australia had conceded five extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 45 balls. While Pandya’s contribution to the partnership was 32, Pandey’s contribution to it was 18. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Pandya, whose 72-ball innings included five boundaries and four sixes, eventually scored 78. Sixty-three balls after Jadhav’s dismissal, he was caught by Kane Richardson. Cummins broke the 78-run partnership.

Pandey, whose 32-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 36. He was unbeaten, as was Dhoni, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scoring three.

Australia eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. India, who scored 294 for the loss of five wickets off 47.5 overs, won by five wickets with 13 balls to spare.

Maxwell bowled an over, conceding two. He was wicketless, as was Stoinis, who bowled eight overs, conceded 61.

Richardson bowled 8.5 overs, conceding 45. He picked up a wicket, as did Agar and Coulter-Nile, who bowled 10 overs apiece. While the former conceded 71, the latter conceded 58.

Cummins bowled 10 overs, conceding 54. He picked up two scalps.
