England K(oh)linch series against India

India made three changes to their playing eleven – Lokesh Rahul, Umesh Yadav and Siddarth Kaul made way for Dinesh Karthik, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur.

England made just one change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Jason Roy made way for James Vince.

On winning the toss, Morgan, England’s skipper, (Eo)inserted the visitors.

The first Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 32, and lost a wicket.

Rohit, who faced 18 balls, scored just a couple. Thirty-four balls into the (Shar)match, he was caught by Mark Wood. David Willey broke the 13-run stand.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 164, and lost five wickets.

India scored 50 off 12.5 overs (77 balls). England had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 53 balls. While Shikhar Dhawan’s contribution to the partnership was 28, the contribution of Virat Kohli, India’s skipper, to it was 22. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Seventeen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had conceded 82 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Dhawan was batting on 43, Kohli was batting on 34.

Karthik, whose 22-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 21. Forty balls after Dhawan’s dismissal, Adil Rashid, the player of the match, broke the 41-run stand.

Kohli, whose 72-ball innings included eight boundaries, eventually scored 71. Thirty-five balls after Karthik’s dismissal, Rashid broke the 31-run stand.

Suresh Raina, who faced four balls, scored a run. Five balls later, he was caught by Joe Root, the player of the series. Rashid broke the two-run stand.

A hundred and eighty-nine balls into the match, India sought a batting review. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the batsman. It was upheld by Australian umpire Bruce Oxenford.

Moeen Ali, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 47.

Wood bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 43, picking up a wicket.

Willey, who bowled nine overs, conceded 40. He picked up three scalps, as did Rashid, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 43.

Raina bowled two wicketless overs, conceding 16.

Pandya bowled 5.3 wicketless overs, conceding 39.

Kumar bowled seven wicketless overs, conceding 49.

Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal bowled 10 wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 55, the latter conceded 41.

Thakur bowled 10 overs, conceding 51. He picked up a wicket.
