M S-led India disappoint SL

India made three changes to their playing eleven – Yusuf Pathan, Praveen Kumar and Ashok Dinda made way for Zaheer Khan, Umesh Yadav and Pragyan Ojha.

Sri Lanka made four Cha(mara)nges to the eleven that last played the Indians – Kapugedera, Farveez Maharoof, Seekkuge Prasanna and Suranga Lakmal made way for Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Rangana Herath and Lasith Malinga.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 45, and lost a wicket.

Gautam Gambhir, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored three. Fourteen balls later, Nuwan Kulasekara had a reason to be in seventh heaven.

India scored 50 off 11.2 overs (69 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 61 balls. While Virender Sehwag’s contribution to the partnership was 28, the contribution of Virat Kohli, the player of the match, to it was 21. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Fifteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 75 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Sehwag was batting on 42, Kohli was batting on 28.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the bowling Powerplay – was between the 17th and the 21st over. They scored 32, without the loss of a wicket.

Sehwag’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came off 60 balls.

India scored 100 off 19 overs (115 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded four extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 150 off 158 balls. While Sehwag’s contribution to the partnership was 84, Kohli’s contribution to it was 63. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

The second-wicket pair eventually put on 173. Sehwag, whose 97-ball innings included 10 boundaries, eventually scored 96. A hundred and seventy-five balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, Perera ran him out.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 34th and the 38th over. They scored 30, for the loss of a wicket.

Rohit Sharma, who faced eight balls, scored five. Fifteen balls later, Mathews broke the 11-run stand.

Thirty-four overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 191 for the loss of three wickets at that point. Kohli was batting on 82.

India scored 200 off 35.3 overs (214 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded five extras at that point.

Kohli’s ton – which included nine boundaries – came off 106 balls. He faced 113 balls, eventually scored 106. Half-a-dozen overs after Sharma’s dismissal, he was caught by the substitute, Sachithra Senanayake. Perera broke the 37-run stand.

India scored 250 off 44 overs (265 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 40 balls. While Suresh Raina’s contribution to the partnership was 29, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 17. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was half-a-dozen.

India scored 300 off 48.4 overs (294 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded a dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Raina’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a six – came off 44 balls. He eventually faced 45 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned score. Fifty-five balls after Kohli’s dismissal, he was caught by Senanayake. Perera broke the 79-run partnership.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Dhoni, whose 29-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 35. The (Thiriman)next ball, he was caught by Lahiru off the bowling of Perera.

Irfan Pathan, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he was unbeaten, as was Ravichandran Ashwin, who didn’t face a ball.

India scored 314 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 50 overs. Tillakaratne Dilshan, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 28. Malinga and Herath bowled 10 wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 83, the latter conceded 52.

Kulasekara, who bowled five overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket, as did Mathews, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 58. Perera, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 70. He picked up three scalps.

Sangakkara’s half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 78 balls.

Dinesh Chandimal, whose (Dho)nineteen-ball innings included a boundary, scored 13. Thirty-nine balls after Tharanga’s dismissal, he was caught behind. Yadav broke the 31-run stand.

Jayawardene, Sri Lanka’s skipper, scored a dozen. His eight-ball innings included a boundary. Nineteen balls (Mahe)later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Ojha, who broke the 15-run stand.

Sri Lanka scored 150 off 31.4 overs (190 balls). India had conceded 18 extras at that point.

Thirty-two overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 151 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Sangakkara was batting on 70, Mathews was batting on four.

The third Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 34th and the 38th over. They scored 35, for the loss of a wicket.

Mathews, who faced 17 balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 41 balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was caught by Gambhir. Khan broke the 40-run stand.

Sangakkara’s ton – which included nine boundaries – came off 125 balls.

Sri Lanka scored 200 off 39.4 overs (238 balls). India had conceded 20 extras at that point.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Sangakkara’s contribution to the partnership was 26, Perera’s contribution to it was 25. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Sri Lanka scored 250 off 44.5 overs (269 balls). India had conceded 20 extras at that point.

Sangakkara, whose 151-ball innings included a dozen boundaries, eventually scored 133. Fifty-three balls after Thirimanne’s dismissal, Yadav broke the 78-run partnership.

The eighth-wicket pair put on a couple. Herath, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, Raina ran him out.

Perera, whose 28-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 44. Five balls later, he was caught by Kohli. Pathan broke the four-run stand.

Malinga, whose innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 19. He was unbea‘ten’. Kulasekara, who faced three balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

India eventually conceded 23 extras. Sri Lanka, who scored 293 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs, lost by 21 runs. Sehwag, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 20.

Ojha, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 44. He picked up a wicket, as did Khan, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 63.

Ashwin and Pathan bowled 10 overs, including a maiden, each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 46, the latter conceded 37. Yadav, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 76. He picked up a couple of scalps.
