India made no changes to their playing eleven.
England made just one change to the eleven that last
played the Indians – Chris Woakes made way for Tim Bresnan.
On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s
skipper and the local hero, inserted the visitors.
The first Powerplay of England’s innings – which was
the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over.
They scored 34, and lost a wicket.
Alastair Cook, England’s skipper, scored 17. His
28-ball innings included three boundaries. Eight overs into the match, he was
trapped leg before wicket by Mohammed Shami.
England scored 50 off 11.4 overs (70 balls). India had
conceded five extras at that point.
Pietersen, whose 20-ball (Kev)innings included a
couple of boundaries, scored 17. Forty-one balls after Cook’s dismissal, he was
caught by Dhoni. Ishant Sharma broke the 44-run stand.
The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the (Ku)mark. Ian
Bell, whose 43-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 25. Three balls
later, he was caught by Dhoni off the bowling of Bhuvneshwar.
It was at that point that the first drinks break was taken.
England had scored 68 for the loss of three wickets at that point. Joe Root
hadn’t opened his account.
Morgan, whose 30-ball (Eo)innings included a boundary,
scored 10. Fifty balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj Singh. Ravichandran
Ashwin broke the 29-run stand.
Craig Kieswetter, who faced three balls, didn’t get
off the mark. Four balls later, Ravindra Jadeja broke the one-run stand.
The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Samit
Patel, who faced four balls, didn’t open his account. Four dot balls later, he
was trapped leg before wicket by Jadeja.
England scored 100 off 25.3 overs (153 balls). India
had conceded a dozen extras at that point.
Thirty-three overs into the match, England had scored

The second Powerplay of England’s innings – which was
the batting Powerplay – was between the 36th and the 40th
over. They scored 20, and lost a couple of wickets.
Root, whose 57-ball innings included four boundaries,
eventually scored 39. Seventy balls after Patel’s dismissal, he was caught by Dhoni.
Sharma broke the 47-run stand.
The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Bresnan,
whose 37-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 25. Four dot balls
later, he was dismissed by Ashwin.
England scored 150 off 39 overs (234 balls). India had
conceded 15 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they
eventually conceded.
James Tredwell, who faced 18 balls, scored four. He
was unbeaten.
Steven Finn, who faced a dozen balls, scored three.
Twenty-seven balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj. Suresh Raina broke the
10-run stand.
The tenth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Jade
Dernbach, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. Three dot balls
later, he was dismissed by Jadeja.
England were dismissed for 155 off 42.2 overs.
Raina, who bowled an over, conceded a run. He picked
up a wicket. Shami, who bowled eight overs, conceded 23. He picked up a wicket.
Kumar bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 40, picking
up a wicket.
Sharma, who bowled seven overs, conceded 29. He picked
up a couple of wickets, as did Ashwin, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 37.
Jadeja, who bowled 6.2 overs, conceded 19. He picked up three scalps.

Kohli’s half-century – which included four boundaries –
came off 58 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 38 balls. While Kohli’s
contribution to the partnership was 27, Yuvraj’s contribution to it was 22. Extras’
contribution to the partnership was a run.
Yuvraj, whose 21-ball innings included half-a-dozen
boundaries, eventually scored 30. Forty-eight balls after Gambhir’s dismissal,
Tredwell broke the 66-run partnership.
Kohli, whose 79-ball innings included nine boundaries
and a couple of sixes, eventually conceded 77. He was unbeaten.
Dhoni, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of
boundaries, was unbea‘ten’.
India scored 150 off 26.4 overs (160 balls). The
number of extras they eventually conceded gave England no reason to be in
seventh heaven.
India, who eventually scored 157 for the loss of three
wickets off 28.1 overs, won by seven wickets with 131 balls to spare.
Dernbach bowled five overs, conceding 45. He was
wicketless, as was Bresnan, who bowled seven overs, including a couple of
maidens. He conceded 31. Finn, who bowled 9.1 overs, conceded 51. He picked up
a wicket. Tredwell bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 29, picking
up a couple of scalps.
India led the five-match series 2-1.
