Dhoni-led India do not WIn

India made no changes to their playing eleven.

The West Indies made three changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Bravo and Ravi Rampaul made way for Devon Smith, Denesh Ramdin and Tino Best.

The first Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 39, for the loss of a couple of wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Twenty-six balls into the match, he was caught by Kemar Roach, who broke the 25-run stand.

Virat Kohli, whose 21-ball innings included a six, scored 11. Twenty-nine balls later, he was caught by Chris Gayle. Daren Sammy broke the 14-run stand.

India scored 50 off 13.2 overs (82 balls). The West Indies had conceded four extras at that point.

Seventeen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had conceded 65 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Rohit Sharma was batting on 28, Dinesh Karthik was batting on eight.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 88 balls. While Rohit’s contribution to the partnership was 27, Karthik’s contribution to it was 18. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

Karthik, whose 56-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 23. Ninety-eight balls after Kohli’s dismissal, he was caught by Marlon Samuels, who broke the 59-run partnership.

India scored 100 off 26.2 overs (160 balls). The West Indies had conceded nine extras at that point.

Rohit’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a six – came off 77 balls. He eventually scored 60 off 89 balls, which included four boundaries, in addition to the six. Thirty-three balls after Karthik’s dismissal, he was caught by Johnson Charles, the player of the match. Sammy broke the 26-run stand.

Thirty-five overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had conceded 133 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Suresh Raina was batting on 16, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was batting on three.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 36th and the 40th over. They scored 27, without the loss of a wicket.

India scored 150 off 37.3 overs (227 balls). The West Indies had conceded 10 extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 65 balls. While Raina’s contribution to the partnership was 31, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 16. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Raina, whose 55-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 44. A dozen overs after Rohit’s dismissal, he was caught by Ramdin. Roach broke the 58-run partnership.

Dhoni, whose 35-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 27. Nineteen balls later, Best broke the 15-run stand.

India scored 200 off 46.4 overs (282 balls). The West Indies had conceded 16 extras at that point.

Ravindra Jadeja, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 15. Fifteen balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, Best broke the run-a-ball stand.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who faced 11 balls, scored just five. He was unbeaten, as was Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who scored 11. His five-ball innings included a boundary and a six.

The West Indies eventually conceded 22 extras. India scored 229 for the loss of seven wickets off 50 overs. Pollard, who bowled an over, conceded eight. He was wicketless, as was Sunil Narine, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 56.

Samuels bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 20, picking up a wicket. Best, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 52. He picked up a couple of wickets, as was Sammy and Roach, who bowled 10 overs each, conceding 41 apiece. While the former’s spell included a couple of maidens, the latter’s spell included three maidens.

Karthik kept wicket in place of Dhoni from the start of the chase.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 70 balls. While Charles’ contribution to the partnership was 22, Darren Bravo’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 100 off 131 balls. While Charles’ contribution to the partnership was 50, Bravo’s contribution to it was 48. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Bravo’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 72 balls. He eventually faced 78 balls, scoring 55. A hundred and forty-two balls after Samuels’ dismissal, he was caught by Dhawan. Ashwin broke the 116-run partnership.

The West Indies scored 150 off 29.4 overs (178 balls). India had conceded four extras at that point.

Pollard had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just four. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Karthik. Ishant Sharma broke the 13-run stand.

Ramdin, who faced five balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Eight balls later, Ashwin broke the six-run stand.

Thirty-five overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. The West Indies had conceded 182 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets at that point. While Charles was batting on 84, Sammy was batting on 17.

The second Powerplay of the West Indies’ innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 36th and the 40th over. They scored 29, for the loss of a wicket.

Sammy, whose 25-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 29. Thirty-one balls later, he was caught by Ashwin. Ishant broke the 36-run stand.

The West Indies scored 200 off 37.3 overs (225 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave India no reason to be in seventh heaven. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Charles, whose 100-ball innings included eight boundaries and four sixes, scored 97. Twenty-one balls later, he was caught by Ishant. Yadav broke the 14-run stand.

Roach, who faced 32 balls, eventually scored 14. He was unbeaten.

Narine, who faced a dozen balls, scored just five. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Dhawan. Raina broke the nine-run stand.

Best, who scored three, was unbea‘ten’.

The West Indies, who scored 230 for the loss of nine wickets off 47.4 overs, won by a wicket with 14 balls to spare. Jadeja bowled 10 wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 50.

Raina bowled two overs, including a maiden. He conceded four, picking up a wicket. Kumar bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 36, picking up a wicket.

Ishant bowled nine overs, conceding 51. He picked up two wickets, as did Ashwin, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 44. Yadav bowled 9.4 overs, including two maidens.
