England beat India; Are D(hon)isappointed

India made no changes to their playing eleven.

England made just one change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Jade Dernbach made way for Chris Woakes.

On winning the toss, Alastair Cook, England’s skipper, inserted the hosts.

The first Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 35, and lost three wickets.

Rohit, who faced nine balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Twenty-one balls into the (Shar)match, he was caught by James Tredwell. Tim Bresnan broke the 13-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Virat Kohli, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Tredwell off the bowling of Bresnan.

Yuvraj Singh, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by Eoin Morgan. Steven Finn broke the 11-run stand.

Gautam Gambhir, whose 42-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 24. Thirty-three balls later, he was caught by Ian Bell, the player of the match. Tredwell broke the 25-run stand.

India scored 50 off 12.3 overs (75 balls). England had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Fifteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 57 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Suresh Raina, the player of the series, was batting on 21, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper, was batting on five.

Dhoni, whose 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 15. Fifty-three balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Finn, who broke the 30-run stand.

India scored 100 off 26.5 overs (161 balls). England had conceded four extras at that point.

Raina’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 71 balls.

Thirty-three overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 127 for the loss of five wickets at that point. While Raina was batting on 53, Ravindra Jadeja was batting on 26.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 76 balls. While Raina’s contribution to the partnership was 22, Jadeja’s contribution to it was 32. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 36th and the 40th over. They scored 25, and lost a wicket.

Jadeja, whose 65-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 39. A hundred and five balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, he was caught by Bell. Tredwell broke the 78-run partnership.

Raina, whose 98-ball innings included eight boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 83. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Bell. Woakes broke the 20-run stand.

India scored 200 off 46.1 overs (277 balls). England had conceded nine extras at that point.

Ravichandran Ashwin, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 19. Thirty-two balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by Finn. Samit Patel broke the 34-run stand.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, whose 30-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 31. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Finn. Bresnan broke the 14-run stand.

The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Mohammed Shami, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a run. The next ball, he was caught by Bresnan off his own bowling.

Ishant Sharma, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

England eventually conceded 10 extras. India were dismissed for 226 off 49.4 overs. Joe Root, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 34. Patel, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 34. He picked up a wicket, as was Woakes, who bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 45.

Finn bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 27, picking up a couple of wickets. Tredwell bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 25, picking up a couple of wickets. Bresnan bowled 9.4 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 45, picking up four scalps.

Bell’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 88 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 67 balls. While Bell’s and Root’s contributions to the partnership were 24 apiece, extras’ contribution to it was four.

Thirty-five overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. England had scored 142 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Bell was batting on 70, Root was batting on 31.

The second Powerplay of England’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 36th and the 40th over. They scored 25, without the loss of a wicket.

Root, whose 49-ball innings included four boundaries, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. A hundred and five balls after Pietersen’s dismissal, Jadeja broke the 79-run partnership.

England scored 150 off 37 overs (222 balls). India had conceded 13 extras at that point.

Bell’s ton – which included 11 boundaries and a six – came off 133 balls.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 51 balls. While Bell’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Morgan’s contribution to it was 23. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

England scored 200 off 44.5 overs (269 balls). India had conceded 15 extras at that point. That was, eventually, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Bell, whose 143-ball innings included 13 boundaries and a six, eventually conceded 113. He was unbeaten, as was Morgan, who scored 40. His run-a-ball innings included three sixes.

Yuvraj, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 15. Kumar bowled nine wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 45. Ashwin, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 50.

Jadeja, who bowled 7.2 overs, conceded 26. He picked up a wicket. Shami bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 46, picking up a wicket. Ishant bowled 10 overs, including three maidens. He conceded 37, picking up a wicket.
