Kohli-led India triumph over England

India made one change to their playing eleven – Umesh Yadav made way for Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

England made just one change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Adil Rashid made way for Liam Plunkett.

On winning the toss, Morgan, England’s skipper, (Eo)inserted the hosts.

The first Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 43, and lost three wickets.

Lokesh Rahul, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Ben Stokes. Chris Woakes broke the 14-run stand.

Virat Kohli, India’s skipper, faced five balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Five balls later, he was caught by Stokes. Woakes broke the eight-run stand.

Shikhar Dhawan, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Ten balls later, Woakes broke the three-run stand.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 218, without the loss of a wicket.

India scored 50 off 10.3 overs (63 balls). England hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

Moeen Ali bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs, conceding 33.

Stokes bowled eight wicketless overs, conceding 79.

Plunkett bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 91, picking up two wickets.

Woakes bowled 10 overs, including three overs. He conceded 60, picking up four scalps.

England, who scored 366 for the loss of eight wickets off 50 overs, lost by 15 runs.

Jadhav, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 45.

Pandya, who bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs, conceded 60.

Kumar and Jadeja bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 63, the latter conceded 45.

Bumrah, who bowled nine overs, conceded 81. He picked up two wickets.

Ashwin, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 65. He picked up three scalps.
