Dhoni-led India (Ki)win the series

India made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Hardik Pandya and Dhawal Kulkarni made way for One-day International debutant Jayant Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah.

New Zealand made one (Devci)change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Anton made way for Corey Anderson.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 45, and lost a wicket.

Ajinkya Rahane, whose 39-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 20. Fifty-six balls into the match, he was caught by Tom Latham. James Neesham broke the 40-run stand.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 154, and lost three wickets.

India scored 50 off 11.4 overs (70 balls). New Zealand had conceded eight extras at that point.

Fifteen overs into the (Shar)match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 71 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Rohit was batting on 35, Virat Kohli was batting on eight.

Sharma’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 49 balls.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 52 balls. While Sharma’s contribution to the partnership was 43, Kohli’s contribution to it was 11. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

India scored 100 off 18.3 overs (111 balls). New Zealand had conceded eight extras at that point.

Sharma, whose 65-ball innings included five boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 70. Seventy-six balls after Rahane’s dismissal, he was caught by Neesham. Trent Boult broke the 79-run partnership.

India scored 150 off 29.3 overs (177 balls). New Zealand had conceded eight extras at that point.

Thirty-one overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 158 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Kohli was batting on 41, the man from Ranchi was batting on (Dho)nineteen.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 52 balls. While Kohli’s contribution to the partnership was 20, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 30. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Kohli’s half-century – which included a boundary and a six – came off 62 balls.

Dhoni, whose 59-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 41. Ninety-three balls after Sharma’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Mitchell Santner, who broke the 71-run partnership.

Manish Pandey, who faced five balls, didn’t get off the mark. Seven balls later, he was caught by Boult. Ish Sodhi broke the five-run stand.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 41st and the 50th over. They scored 70, and lost a couple of wickets.

India scored 200 off 40.1 overs (241 balls). New Zealand had conceded nine extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Kohli, whose 76-ball (Mart)innings included a couple of boundaries, in addition to the six, eventually scored 65. Twenty-seven balls after Pandey’s dismissal, he was caught by Guptill. Sodhi broke the 25-run stand.

India scored 250 off 48.3 overs (291 balls).

Kedar Jadhav, whose 37-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 39. He was unbeaten.

Axar Patel, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 24. Thirty-nine balls later, Boult broke the 46-run stand.

Jayant, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

India eventually scored 269 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 50 overs.

Anderson bowled four overs, conceding 27. He was wicketless, as was Tim Southee, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 56.

Neesham bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceding 30. He picked up a wicket, as did Santner, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 36.

Sodhi and Boult bowled 10 overs each, picking up two scalps apiece. While the former conceded 66, the latter conceded 52.

The first Powerplay of New Zealand’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 46, and lost a couple of wickets.

New Zealand’s openers didn’t get off the mark. Guptill, who faced four balls, didn’t open his account. Four balls into the chase, he was dismissed by Umesh Yadav.

Latham, whose 17-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 19. Thirty-two balls later, he was caught by Jayant. Bumrah broke the 28-run stand.

The second Powerplay of New Zealand’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 33, and lost eight wickets.

New Zealand scored 50 off 11.2 overs (68 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

Kane Williamson, New Zealand’s skipper, scored 27. His 40-ball innings included four boundaries. Fifty-two balls after Latham’s dismissal, he was caught by Jadhav. Patel broke the 35-run stand.

Ross Taylor, whose 32-ball innings included a boundary, scoreD(ho)nineteen. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught behind. Amit Mishra, the player of the match and the player of the series, broke the three-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Bradley-John Watling, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was dismissed by Mishra.

Sixteen overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. New Zealand had scored 66 for the loss of five wickets at that point. Neesham hadn’t opened his account.

Anderson had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he didn’t get off the mark. Three overs after Watling’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Jayant, who broke the eight-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Neesham, who faced 13 balls, scored just three. The next ball, he was dismissed by Mishra.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Southee, who faced four balls, didn’t open his account. Four balls later, he was stumped by Dhoni off the bowling of Mishra.

Sodhi, who faced five balls, didn’t get off the mark. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Rahane. Mishra broke the two-run stand.

Santner, who faced 10 balls, scored just four. Nine balls later, Patel broke the three-run stand.

Boult, who faced five balls, scored just a run. He was unbeaten.

India eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. New Zealand, who were dismissed for 79 off 23.1 overs, lost by 190 runs.

Umesh and Jayant bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 28, the latter conceded eight.

Bumrah bowled five overs, conceding 16. He picked up a wicket.

Patel bowled 25 balls, conceding nine. He picked up a couple wickets.

Mishra bowled half-a-dozen overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 18, picking up five scalps.
