England win; India K(oh)linch series

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Shikhar Dhawan made way for Ajinkya Rahane.

England made a couple of changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Alex Hales and Joe Root made way for Sam Billings and Jonny Bairstow.

On winning the toss, Virat Kohli, India’s skipper, inserted the visitors.

The first Powerplay of England’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 43, without the loss of a wicket.

The second Powerplay of England’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 182, for the loss of four wickets.

England’s openers put on 50 off 11 overs (66 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point. While Jason Roy’s contribution to the partnership was 33, Billings’ contribution to it was 19.

Roy’s half-century – which included eight boundaries and a six – came off 41 balls.

Seventeen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. England had scored 97 without the loss of a wicket at that that point. While Roy was batting on 57, Billings was batting on 35.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who bowled nine wicketless overs, conceded 60.

Bumrah bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 68, picking up a wicket.

Jadeja, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 62. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Pandya bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 49, picking up three scalps.

Jadhav, whose 75-ball innings included a dozen boundaries and a six, eventually scored 90. A dozen balls after Ashwin’s dismissal, he was caught by Billings. Woakes broke the 19-run stand.

Kumar, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten, as was Jasprit Bumrah, who didn’t face a ball.

India, who scored 316 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs, lost by five runs.

Ali, who bowled eight wicketless overs, conceded 41.

Willey, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded eight. He picked up a wicket, as did Plunkett, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 65.

Woakes and Ball bowled 10 overs each, picking up two wickets apiece. While the former conceded 75, the latter conceded 56.

Stokes, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 63. He picked up three scalps.
