Like the
previous two matches in the series, the third was also played at a stadium
named after India’s first prime minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. India made
just one change to their playing eleven – Hrishikesh Kanitkar made way for
Debasis Mohanty.
Sri Lanka made just one Chan(dana)ge to the eleven that last played the Indians – Upul made way for Marvan Atapattu.
On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, India’s skipper, chose to bat. Ajay Jadeja, whose 108-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 53. (Mutti)Ahundred and eighty-eight balls into the match, he was caught by Muralitharan. Sanath Jayasuriya broke the 131-run partnership.
