four changes to their playing eleven – Rahul Dravid, Saba Karim, Anil Kumble
and Venkatesh Prasad made way for Robin Singh, Nayan Mongia, One-day
International debutant Sairaj Bahutule and Debasis Mohanty.
Sri Lanka made a couple of changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Lanka de Silva and Dulip Liyanage made way for Romesh Kaluwitharana and Chaminda Vaas. Owing to early morning fog and mist, play was delayed by 45 minutes, and the match was reduced to a 45-overs-a-side match.
On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, India’s skipper, inserted the visitors. Sanath Jayasuriya, who faced seven balls, scored a run. Eleven balls into the match, he was caught by Ajay Jadeja. Mohanty broke the five-run stand.
